Where I live, there is a very magnificent synagogue. It is the Great H Achmad Bakrie mosque which is located in Kisaran, North Sumatra. As the name implies, this Grand Mosque is very large and can accommodate 5 thousand worshipers. Interestingly, this Grand Mosque stands next to the Town Square and Forest so it can become a tourist spot as well.

A Brief History of the Great Mosque of H. Achmad Bakrie

Great Mosque H, Achmad Bakrie was built on a land area of 20 hectares. From what I read, here 4.4 hectares of land is used for buildings the mosque while the rest is used as a religious park and Islamic Education Center in Kisaran. This mosque was built by Aburizal Bakrie, therefore the name was adapted from the name of his father, Ahmad Bakrie.

The construction of the Grand Mosque was carried out from 2011 to 2015. For 4 years, the construction was only centered on the mosque building. Only after that, the development of the surrounding area was carried out. The climax, on August 30, 2019 this mosque was inaugurated by the Regent of Asahan and Aburizal Bakrie.

This mosque was built with 3 floors. The first floor is used as a place for ablution and is also used as an office for mosque administrators. The 2nd and 3rd floors are used as a place for worship.

For the architecture of the Grand Mosque, it is the same as other mosques which have a rectangular shape with one dome and 4 towers that stand firmly on the four corners. The color of the mosque is dominated by white and golden yellow with green accents on the windows. Apparently the colors have a meaning, namely, the mosque as a clean place but also a medium of a victorious and decent livelihood.

Religious Tourist Places

Since its inauguration, this Grand Mosque has not only become the largest house of worship in Kisaran but also a tourist spot for the surrounding community.

It was amazing to see the mosque area from the aerial view. I didn't expect the area there to look so clean either. I hope in the future the cleanliness of the area will be maintained. We know, many tourist sites in the area are ultimately neglected, also with large mosques.

Now the mosque more clean and beautiful with fontain in front of mosque.
