It all started when I was casually scrolling through my social media, minding my own business, when suddenly, a picture of a pizza appeared. An appetizing post of a pizza loaded with cheese, toppings and all the good stuff. I went straight to the fridge and pantry. To check if I had what it takes to make a DIY pizza. As I dug through the shelves I saw my ingredients were far from complete. But a little creation never hurt anyone.
These are the items I got from the fridge and pantry.
Tortilla wrap.
I found the mozzarella had gone bad. Luckily I had another type of cheese tucked away.
The green and black olives.
I decided to use this sachet of ketchup because it had just been sitting in the fridge, waiting to be used. It’s one of those little freebies that always come with takeout or food deliveries and honestly, they tend to pile up over time. I just got 10 pieces and there were still many left.
I started by scattering ketchup all over the tortilla wrap. I'm making sure it covers every corner for a flavorful base. Then layered on some cheese. I added slices of spam and salami. Arranging them so every bite would have a mix of savory goodness. I added a bang of color and flavor with green and black olives dispersed evenly on top.
To finish it off I grated some cheese and dusted it over the top, veiling all the layers below.
Everything was done, I placed the tortilla wrap in the microwave. Set it to cook for 10 minutes on medium heat. As it heated the cheese began to thaw and fizz. The smell of the spam, salami, and olives replete the kitchen. I feel excited and curious to see how my little on the spot pizza would turn out. I'm counting down the minutes until that first delicious bite.
The 10 minutes finally ended and it was time to halt on my pizza. I carefully opened the microwave door, holding my breath for the big reveal. A wave of delicious aromas immediately hit me, all mingling together. My eyes widened with charm. I felt a little kick of success, my diy pizza experiment had actually worked, and it was ready to be devoured.
I sliced the pizza into four pieces and grabbed two for myself. Leaving the other two for my husband. I knew that when he came home from work he’d enjoy them as a little snack. I opened a cold can of Coke and took a sip before pitching in. The first bite made me smile. The flavors blended so well. It was delicious. I was very happy with how my diy pizza unfolded. It was easy, rewarding and exactly what I needed to alleviate my craving.
