It was summer when we went to the Lake Apo in Valencia Bukidnon. The crater lake can be spotted in Barangay Guinoroyan in an elevated area of about 2,100 feet. From Butuan City going there, it takes 6 hours away and 11 minutes on a car ride while on a motorcycle is 5 hours and 44 minutes. If you’d like to just walk (lol), it takes 54 hours before arriving at the place.
How to go There?
If you travel from Malaybalay City, you can just ride a bus or taxi for 1 hour and 21 minutes which costs 588-755 fare. The cheapest option is riding in a bus or through a private vehicle. Riding in both private cars and taxis can only take 41 minutes if traveling from Malaybalay.
However, Travelling from Cagayan De Oro is the only option if you're not from Bukidnon. From CDO, it only takes 3 hours and 2 minutes via Sayre Highway.
Personal Experience
We didn't think of the time we spent traveling to Valencia of Lake Apo because we were truly entertained by the green and smokey mountains. The weather seems like we traveled to Baguio city where the climate is cold. Yet, instead of going to Valencia, we were strayed in Malaybalay. So, that travel took 9 hours.
We passed by the Atugan Bridge of Impasug-ong which is 64.5 meters depth. Accordingly, It's one of the highest bridges in the Philippines. Kids were fearless to overlook from the top. I cannot dare to take pictures below because I was nervous about the height. My knees were shaking. Even if it was afternoon, the bridge was foggy and cold weather.
My baby couldn't sleep even if it was a long ride because we were noisy inside the car especially when we were astonished with unique views. She was not even fussy.
When we arrived, we paid 5 pesos at the parking lot only because their neighbor offered the place. The entrance fee is 70 pesos per head. Since their main amusement is a bamboo raft, it costs 400 pesos and can load up to 10 people.
My baby being carried by my aunt was also enjoying the view and weather.
My sister and niece were overlooking the inn in front. Since we were strayed, we entered the wrong entrance of the lake. If only we had taken another road, we would be staying at the inn for one night because it was a long travel.
The place to standby is a sail shade where you can bring food. It is perfect for picnicking. The table is good for more than five people you can bring the entire member of the family to unwind while looking at the calmness of the lake.
Review
Visiting the place from Cagayan De Oro for three hours and 6 hours from Butuan City, it's not worth it. It is only great for its neighboring places because it is lack of amenities. We can only order food from an eatery outside which is not clean looking. The road going there is steep and narrow without rails and we can look at the mountain. It's way dangerous and never advisable with babies. Thank God we came home with my baby safe. The mountains are too high which is scary for four wheels. If you're a cowboy, this place might suit you. Their amusement is only the water rafting, but when you cross the river by raft, there’s a suite and a playground for the children.
