This reminds me of my neighborhood in Cambodia very much. It is much better to live like this than a wealthy community where everyone hides behind their gates and doors, always afraid of what may or may not happen. Here in Suriname, the living is very anti-social, even in poorer neighborhoods people keep to themselves and interact very little on the street. It's quite depressing, and really hard to make friends under these circumstances.
