In Suriname, streetside shoe repair is almost completely dead, perhaps only a handful doing it in the capital city. I made sure to support these guys by having them perform surgery on a pair of my failing shoes. In Cambodia this trade still thrives, and strangely people who perform roadside shoe repair are also locksmiths.

I think the number of shoe repairers is getting smaller these days. Maybe because of the demand.
My shoe repair guy here in the Washington DC area also is a locksmith and runs the two businesses out of the same stall. @justinparke
