This is such a milestone for us because it is basically at the heart of what we do here. Sterilization is the only ethical and sustainable method of controlling stray animal populations and it is much more humane than the methods that have been used in Thailand in the past. There are rumors of an evening "kill patrol" that comes by if the Soi Dog or stray animal population gets to be a nuisance, and this is done at night with men that have blow dart tranquilizers and all of the dogs on the street are systematically culled. I have never actually seen this, and the government denies its existence. However, I have lived here long enough to know that there have been multiple times that "hot spot" stray dog locations such as markets go from having dozens of dogs, to having none in the course of 24 hours. There is no other explanation.
I'd like to believe that this horrible practice is done as humanely as possible but who know. It could be absolutely soul-less and horrible.

While it has been a focus of ours all along, our renewed funding post-Covid and the combination of various groups like ours in the region to host mass sterilization events as well as our continued efforts of control at certain temples in the area, have lead to consistent, although not yet dropping population numbers.
We can't be everywhere at once though, and this is why the thing we are truly happy about is the fact that the entire Krabi region seems to be aware of what we are doing now, and why it is important. People recently have been calling us to report unwanted strays that are reproducing like crazy, and they are aware that the only way forward is in-fact sterilization.

When people see us picking up dogs in their neighborhood they are often a bit confused what we are doing and in rare instances people sometimes think we are stealing the dogs. The street dogs of Thailand are a bit of a strange thing. The people in the neighborhoods will sometimes look after the dogs in the way of feeding them and being nice to them, but they never actually provide them with a real home nor do they provide necessary medical care. We explain to the people in the neighborhood what we are doing and then assure them that we are in fact bringing the dogs back in a day or two after they are treated and sterilized. Almost everyone that we tell this to is very happy to hear that an organization like this exists and much of the time they are willing and enthusiastic to become our local lookout for any new animals that roam into the area.

In this particular area that we recently visited, there were a dozen puppies or so and they are already becoming a problem for the area. These situations have a tendency to sort themselves out in that half of the puppies will die, but then they are simply replaced by a new batch and the cycle continues forever until eventually the midnight culling police get called in. We would like to be the reason why this gruesome process no longer needs to exist.
We have become quite well-known in the area and people pass around out contact information and explain what it is that we do. Almost everyone is very supportive of us and some of the families have even donated to us once they understand what our objective is. In lieu of any sort of animal control, we are really the only chance that these animals have for survival.
For the time being we are just really pleased that the word has spread and the population are starting to understand that if we don't change how we are doing things, the problem is NOT just going to go away.

You are doing great. Sterlization is not easy and you are doing to make difference. Nice work and I am in full support👍
I appreciate your words. we will never give up!
I suppose you will get to a tipping point when things are under control and it will be the odd new stray that needs taking care of. If there is no breeding taking place then things will be far better as you can look after the dogs and cats checking for other health issues.
this is of course the ultimate objective. It's a tough one though because Krabi is a very big place for a small organization like our own to be the only ones that are doing anything about it.
