Hello everyone. How are you today? I hope all is well with you and your family. This year the Loi Krathong festival in Thailand will be held early next month. And in northern Thailand, there is a festival that is organized together with the Loi Krathong festival too. This festival is Yi Peng festival or Yi Peng tradition. Which is a tradition of people in the northern of Thailand (Lanna tradition). Before the Loi Krathong festival and Yi Peng festival, many temples in northern Thailand are decorated with cloth lanterns or paper lanterns. They are northern style cloth lanterns. Local people call them Lanna lanterns. There are many lanterns hanging. In the district where I live too, there are cloth lanterns are hung in many temples. One of them is Wat Sriboonruang. Every year Wat Sriboonruang organizes northern Thai lantern fair during the Loi Krathong festival and Yi Peng festival. Every year about 1 - 2 week before the Loi Krathong festival and Yi Peng festival, the northern Thai lantern fair is held at this temple. Local people, both Thai and ethnic groups will hang cloth lanterns at the temple. The northern Thai lantern fair is held from morning until night. Most people visit this event at night. At night the cloth lanterns will are turn on the cloth lanterns. And the inside the temple is very beautiful with these cloth lanterns. And there are also many shops open and selling at night. But my wife and I are not comfortable going to the temple at night. So today we took our granddaughter to visit the northern Thai lantern fair in the late morning. This fair has been held for several days. When we arrived at the temple, there were many cloth lanterns hanging and decorations at the temple. I think there are hundreds of cloth lanterns. We bought three cloth lanterns that were sold at this temple and hung our lanterns area the large buddha statue first.
Then we walked around the temple to admire the lanterns and the vibe in the temple. Even though the cloth lanterns are turn off from morning to afternoon, But the various colors cloth lanterns look very beautiful. And we enjoy the cloth lamps and photography. There weren't many people in the morning, so it was convenient for us to take photos too. Besides walking around and admiring the vibe in the temple, we also sat and paid respects to the buddha images and made merit.
