Hi hi.. morning... @luueetang here. I hope that you have had your breakfast. It is currently 9:13 AM here in Miri, Sarawak. There is a shop that sells affordable chicken rice at around RM 4.20 / USD 1.05 . Prices were RM 3.70 and USD 0.75 cents. Inflation.

Roasted drumstick. In soy sauce. The best roasted chicken from my view has to have meat that is tender and with almost no fat. Usually, I go for the popular shops here. Why? This means that the food has a higher turnover rate. More customers, more food that needs to be ordered fresh and served fresh.
This shop serves only chicken rice.
That is the owner and I believe that the lady in black is his wife. So sweet.
My wife suddenly craved for chicken rice these couple of weeks. So we have been checking out places around the city that specially cater to chicken rice.
We ordered similar dishes. Roasted chicken rice . Drum stick.
Only at RM 4.20. That's the price for each plate of chicken rice here at this shop. It is located in the city centre.

The rice
Chicken rice here in Sarawak are cooked with chicken essence. The oil that drips from the chicken is used to cook chicken rice which gives it the wonderful aroma of a plate of chicken rice. This shop makes really good rice which doesn't clump. There are places where I've eaten rice that clumps together.
Milk Tea and a cup of coffee
Freshly brewed coffee and a cup of tea to start off the day.
My favourite drink
A cup of coffee with milk that has a slightly bitter and creamy taste.
Roasted drumstick
The average price for a plate of chicken rice here in Miri is around 4.50 or about USD 1.10 . There are some who complain about the price given it is already pretty affordable. Do check out Country Chicken rice if you have a chance to visit Miri in the future. =)

it depends on where you buy it. some very local "warung" will cost you around $1 for Nasi Campur.

General street vendors, fried or grilled chicken is almost the same . it is around $1.1-1.5

We can only get this kind of price in Sarawak. I do know there are places in Sarawak, like Sri Aman or Betong that still sell kolok mee for RM2. RM4.20 for a plate of chicken rice is dirt cheap. The cheapest meal we can get at Kopitiam here is RM8 minus drinks. Last year it was RM7 but they increased it to RM8 recently. Crazy.
Hi hi Olivia.. it's still good to see these prices right.. but I think also average KL salary can reach 3.5k per person.. I just guess.. here in Miri, there are many with salary of only RM 800 to 1000. So luckily got places that don't sell too expensive.. hahaha oh yea..just curious and wanted to ask if u don't mind to share.. ur doing art full time to sell in KL right? How is it like?
An average salary of 3.5 is okay if you don't have commitments. But most people have a family to support PLUS aging parents to take care of as well. So even if your salary is 6K-8K it's still not enough. Many people do part-time work to supplement their income. It's true Sabah/Sarawak have a smaller salary but many people there don't experience the kind of stress we have here (always on the rush, traffic jams, long commute, long hours, expensive food etc).
I don't sell my art in KL. I do online hustling and sell worldwide. Doing art is difficult to cari makan in Malaysia unless you have connections to "powerful" people in the industry. Also art industry in Malaysia is quite elitist or even racist. They don't pandang you if you don't have art degree/art qualifications or if you are not of certain race/religion. I am not racist, I am just stating the reality here.
No wonder when I posted about my friends art and you told me that the art is not appreciated. Now I understand the reason why. In Miri, local art is appreciated locally and even handicrafts.. the baby carriers, bags and painting..
If in Miri, Salary got 6 to 8k.. live like a king Liao.. nice house, nice car.. ahhaha. But I do understand la, cause KL standard of living is high and more advanced... Here.. is the laid back relaxed life. By night in Miri at 5 no one works Liao. Weekends, family day, no one works. Then free time is for hobby... Like fishing, running, going exercising... Hahaha.. then eat.. drive slowly.. and move slowly. If Brunei more slow .. I was at a bank once, just getting to number 9 from number 7 took an hour. Slowly entertain first the person, talk family first.
Looks delicious. The rice sounds yummy cooked in the chicken fat for flavour.

This is very cheap compared to the price of ordinary chicken in my region. Getting a fried chicken will cost you nothing less that N1,500 that's approximately $3. The rice will be around N500 which is $1 the total cost of getting an average plate of chicken rice is $4

The prices of food have also increased in Kuching. Kolo Mee is now RM4.50. The plate of chicken rice looks yummy.
