The French baking influence was taken in Vietnam and Cambodia, but Thailand not so much. I miss Cambodian baguettes too. So cheap, and made fresh daily.

And Laos of course. It's funny but I first had a wander around Laos and Cambodia about 17 years ago, I expected many people to speak a little French. I speak French fairly well so thought communication would be no problem. How wrong I was lol

But by those baguettes....before I was married, I'd do visa runs across into Cambodia and brought bags full back for the freezer.

I think I read you and your wife got this young fella onboard?

I love his posts, always simple, upbeat and honest. I wish some of the big shots here would give him a few decent votes.

I hope you and your lovely family can get sorted and stay together. Thanks for the comment and best wishes for a lovely weekend.

Yes, he is a family member of ours, the third Cambodian we've onboarded, but the only one still posting. Seventeen years ago Cambodia was still a pretty wild place. We have Hive plans for our return to Cambodia, would like to give some youngsters the opportunity to be self-employed in the rice fields, and earn a salary better than what they could by commuting to a Chinese factory each day.

Funny you mentioned the French, it's almost a dead language now, and the nail in the coffin was the last medical school that still taught in French has now closed. The older generation of doctors can still speak it, and you could easily explain your health concerns to them, but otherwise it's a remnant of the past, English and Mandarin are taking over.
