We made it! We can't believe it! What an epic trip. We have sailed from Brisbane to the very tip of mainland Australia. What an accomplishment. We honestly expected to visit the tip of Australia in a 4wd vehicle, not by boat. And not by sailing, something I've never done before.
There were just 2 of us boats travelling together for the last bit of Australia. We rounded the tip of Cape York to an empty Punsand Bay, just waiting for us and Speakeasy to choose our spot. Looking at the tip of the Cape and the trail up to it, all we could see was a line of people, like ants, following the leader up the hill, down the other side and out to the rocky tip.
Time to join them.
our friends on Speakeasy coming in to Punsand Bay
It was such a 'wow' moment when we climbed to the top of the hill. The views were absolutely spectacular. Then it rained. Of course. We took shelter behind a rock to wait it out and, what do you know? The rain chased away most of the tourists back to their 4wds. Us die-hard sailors know how to ride out a spot of bad weather. So, with the tip of the Cape almost to ourselves, we cracked the bubbles, beers and nibbles and kicked back to take it all in.
The northernmost tip of the Australian continent
I think we all felt such a sense of achievement as the reality hit us. We had sailed more than 2000 nautical miles since we left Brisbane. I still pinch myself that this is my life. It's not a holiday. It's not a practice run. It's the real deal. It's a life I am absolutely loving. I feel like I can call myself a sailor these days. I've learnt alot but I still have alot to learn. I'm still a newbie but I don't need a translation of every single sailing word anymore.
Until next time, Watusi Woman - proud sailor, out.
the start of a new day
a glorious sunset to finish the day
This means you will be leaving Australia soon. Do have a great adventure. What does Watusi mean?
Watusi is a former name for the African Tutsi tribe. It was also the name of a dance in the 1960's.
That is very interesting to know
It must be fun being a sailor so much beautiful place to discover
It definitely is a great life I'm living. The world has so much beauty to explore and I never get tired of seeing any of it.

Good job sailor! Question, if you're sailing do you have "data"? As in, will you be able to get online?
We have to be in range of the towers to get internet. Service is spotty at best around Thursday Island as its so remote. Service providers obviously don't think it's worth the effort. You may have noticed I'm not active for several days, sometimes weeks as I've had no service then I play catch-up with posting and with reading and commenting on others' posts. Out at sea offshore we have no service at all.
