Building a Lego TIE fighter

Christmas Present time - This set, which is 75300 - the Imperial TIE fighter. This is obviously a classic vehicle from the Tar Wars universe. From the original film back in the seventies there has always been a TIE fighter to blow up, be hit by an asteroid or generally speaking be pretty useless.

This set itself has been on my 'Wanted sets' list for a since it came out at the start of 2021 - it fits into a nice area - it's not too expensive (Around $50-60 AUD) nor too complicated - it's 432 pieces but it still looks pretty good, and not too kid like. It also comes with three mini-figs (not sure why as only one can fit in the ship but there is a lot to be said for Star Wars minifigs. So it ticks a lot of boxes.

In terms of making it it's really a tale of three parts - the main body or pod which is a solid thing, the mini fig can fit inside (sans gun) and the 'glass' portion of the pod is openable, the two 'wings' are then built separately - they really are just a three plate wide hexagon with some fancy tile work on the side - then you connect them on from the three pins on each side and you have yourself a surprisingly robust craft.

So all in all a nice little build - has some playability for younger people, it shoots green 'lasers' which are little bits of plastic which will hurt people if you fire them at them which might be concerning, but for adults it also looks pretty good on a shelf and can occasionally be picked up and swooshed about a little.
