I saw a paper wasp build its own nest this afternoon. The nest is roughly 40% complete, and as far as I can tell, it has 5 compartments, each of which will have a capsule-like shape when it is complete. It seems to be a tenacious builder, needing no one else to assist it. I observed something that resembled sawdust, and saliva was extracted from its jaws and fastened to the incomplete nest. The little nest was hanging onto the grass in the middle of the meadow. I think it should require assistance from some pals to prepare the nest. It had nonetheless made the decision to go it alone. I'm hoping the little house is finished soon.
I submitted these images for the #monomad challenge run by @monochromes.
