After about four months of training, students participating in the 3rd batch of Independent Student Exchange (PMM) at Malikussaleh University, began appearing on stage in official activities witnessed by hundreds of other students. As their supervisor, I called their performance the Acehnese Traditional Culture Gallery.
Why did I give it that title? Because the 20 students from various universities in Indonesia presented several cultures and traditions of the Acehnese people which the younger generation of Acehnese do not understand or no longer know about these traditions. So, this performance is also a reminder of the traditions of the Acehnese people which are almost extinct.
First, they performed the tarek pukat dance, a dance about the process of catching fish using traditional tools. I have posted about the exercises they do here before. Students practice for one hour every Saturday and Sunday or when there is a Nusantara Module meeting scheduled.
After performing the tarek pukat dance smoothly, they began to perform a series of traditions on stage. Oh yes, the tarek seine dance requires high concentration and you can't make any mistakes. If one dancer makes a mistake, it will disrupt the rope that other dancers have knitted beforehand.
Well, the traditions and culture that they display in the form of dance movements include peuratep aneuk or lulling children on a swing. This is an Acehnese tradition that has educational value because while putting the child to sleep, an inspiring story is read in the form of a rhythmic song.
There is also a tradition of seeing off the bride and groom which is also shown in dance. I posted everything in the black and white photography community. Thank you for your support.[]
