This was a small restoration job that took place months ago while I was working on some other builds. The idea was restoring the finish on the instrument they would go to someone else.
In my opinion, giving away instruments that have taken so much damage over the years is not a good gift. It looks ok-ish in the photos, but it has some cracks and other details between bad repairs and other things that make it look that a used car, but a heavily used one.
Anyways, when clients come with requests like these, there is no other thing to do but doing the work and moving ahead. In this case, this was the instrument to try using the acrylic finish for the first time. It took my two tries to get it right, but in the end the results were good.
This is a relic of the past of luthierie in the city from the 70s and 80s. People stopped making these patterns long time ago. They took way too much time and instruments like these were made in series, so they where quite cheap.
Taking some easier jobs like these are a good way to practice some other skills that are just at the end of builds. So it usually works out as a nice way to try some products or practice the paint gun usage.
