Monomad photography

My entry for the black and white contest.
I normally just take pics for fun but I had to take an intentional image of this view from above.
In Lagos, the water is just as busy as the streets. This shot captures that mix of old and new that I see every day. You have the Martell Voyager barge sitting heavy on the lagoon, representing the city’s commerce and movement. Then, right behind it, the skyline of Victoria Island is reaching for the clouds with cranes and glass towers.
To me, this image is about balance. It’s the stillness of the water meeting the restless energy of a city that never stops building. It shows that even in a place this fast-paced, there’s a certain beauty in how everything flows together.
The View from Above
I love this shot because it feels like the city is taking a deep breath. While the first photo is about what’s happening on the ground, this one is all about the sky.
I managed to catch a kite—one of those birds you see everywhere in Lagos—soaring right over the Five Cowries Creek. It’s a simple moment, but it has a lot of meaning for me. Below the bird, you see the traffic, the bridges, and the new buildings, but the bird doesn't care about any of that. It represents a different kind of freedom. Even as Lagos grows taller and more crowded, the sky remains wide open. It’s a reminder that no matter how much we build, there’s still room to breathe and look up.
