I'm currently doing my damndest to avoid anything the do with the news or the election results so I've been going through my photos that don't have anything to do with politics. I reckon critter photos are about as far from that as you can get and still be on the internet so I rounded up a few of those for y'all this evening. These first two are from my trip to Santa Fe a couple years ago, the lady milking the goat was our airbnb host. She was definitely the most interesting host I've had, she raised chickens and goats, taught yoga, had lived in ashrams for decades, and was also an author of several books.

Growing up I hunted a lot but living in the city has put quite the damper on that. Most of the time I make do by shooting critters with a camera but sometimes I miss having squirrel and dumplings. All the old hunting skills do come in quite handy when I'm trying to get close enough to get the photo I want though. City squirrels will also let you get a hell of a lot closer to them than their rural cousins, I was always doing good to get much closer than 50 yards from one in the woods.

This final critter is a mule deer that I came upon while out hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. Growing up in eastern Kentucky, white-tailed deer were all you would see, I'd never seen a mule deer before I made it to RMNP. (Mule deer are just found in the western part of the United States) I wonder if the venison tastes different from the white-tails? Any of y'all out there tried both?

Anybody else out there trying to avoid election ruckus too? I'm not especially worried about the outcome (if voting actually changed things they'd make it illegal, no?) but the incessant coverage gets old fast. If you know of a good distraction, drop me a comment, I'm always in the market for new ones!
Thank you!!!!
Here's your distraction--election results? Wha'd I miss? Someone get married or something? No, really, what am I missing?
In California, all they talk about are the white tails. I've never been a hunter, just not my thing but I've tried much game (that rhymed). I've always wanted to track with my hunter buddies, though, and I've always known my weapon would be a camera.
Unless I'm badly mistaken, you ain't missed much. I can't really say though, I've been trying to miss it too...
Hunting white tails in my neck of the woods usually consisted of sitting in a tree stand and waiting, I never had the patience for that. Reading sign/tracking is a fun skill to have or learn...thanks for reminding me, I need to brush up on that.
As long as it ain't rabbit I'm game to eat game :) There's a place here in Louisville, Mike Linning's, that mostly serves fried seafood but you can also get turtle soup, frog legs, and gator there (in case you're hungry the next time yall are passing through).
Good morning colonel. Had rabbit confit one time in Estes Park, don't remember being too excited. All the other stuff--heck yeah! New Orleans, they're pretty good at whippin up grilled blood sausage and fried gator. And goat cheese cake, too, man that was bomb!
Fun fact: autocorrect had 'fiat' for 'goat.'
Mardi Gras, however.. Fat Tuesday. Eh, kinda like a high school reunion or a renaissance fair--glad I did it once (I guess) but that's enough.
I'm pretty sure if we get together, we'll be so busy passin one back n forth, we'll completely forget about .. danget, what was I gonna say?? I had it, it was right there. Oh well
New Orleans sounds lovely, although having retired from drinking Mardi Gras doesn't hold much appeal to me. I've never even heard of goat cheese cake before but now I want some.
I'm pretty sure that as long as we remember to keep passing we'll manage just fine
