It's fascinating to walk the streets of Recoleta and find this kind of jewels, the whole city of Buenos Aires is full of buildings of high value in terms of architecture but Recoleta I think is one of the most emblematic places and this building is iconic, but it is not a common building really. As I was leaving Las Heras subway station I could see the building, it is the headquarters of the faculty of engineering of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), obviously I already knew it but still, it does not cease to fascinate when you are in front of such a work of architecture.
I stopped for a few minutes and while I took some pictures I thought about the majestic structure and that several buildings in the city are dedicated to higher education and were built with similar designs, it would be very interesting to study in such a place, I thought.
Es fascinante recorrer las calles de Recoleta y encontrarse con este tipo de joyas, toda la ciudad de Buenos Aires está repleta de edificios de alto valor en cuanto a arquitectura pero Recoleta creo que es uno de los lugares más emblemáticos y este edificio es icónico, pero no es un edificio común realmente. Mientras salía de la estación Las Heras del subterráneo podía ver el edificio, se trata de la sede de la facultad de ingeniería de la universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), Obviamente ya la conocía pero aún así, no deja de fascinar cuando estre frente a semejante obra arquitectonica.
Me detuve algunos minutos y mientras tomaba algunas fotos pensaba en lo majestuoso de su estructura y que varios edificios de la ciudad están dedicados a la educación superior y fueron construidos con diseños parecidos, sería muy interesante cursan estudios en un lugar así, pienso.
But I was not only thinking about that but also about the supposed legend that many know about this building and its construction. The building is influenced by European neo-Gothic architecture, construction began at the beginning of the last century and after several years construction stopped. Legend has it that the architect, after being in his studio analyzing the calculations, found flaws that indicated that if he continued the work the building could collapse and in the midst of all that emotional chaos he decided to end his life.
As you can see, the upper part of the building is flattened, but there the construction was to follow its course, raising huge towers characteristic of this style of architecture. But this legend seems to be just that, it is known that the building could not be finished for lack of funding due to the high costs, the architect died of natural causes without seeing a single dollar for his half work, years later his family received the payment that was not enough for almost nothing, really.
Legends like this one are many in cities and seem to fascinate the population. The fact is that it is still an impressive building and deserves to be photographed.
Pero no solamente pensaba en eso sino en la supuesta leyenda que muchos conocen sobre este edificio y su construcción. El edificio está influenciado por la arquitectura neogotica europea, la construcción empezó a principios del siglo pasado y luego de varios años la construcción se detuvo. La leyenda cuenta que el arquitecto luego de estar en su estudio analizando los cálculos, encontró fallas que indicaban que si continuaba la obra el edificio se podría venir abajo y en medio de todo ese caos emocional decidió terminar con su vida.
Cómo pueden observar, la parte superior del edificio está planchada, pero allí la construcción debía seguir su rumbo, levantando enormes torres características de este estilo de arquitectura. Pero está leyenda parece ser solo eso, se conoce que el edificio no pudo ser terminado por falta de financiamiento debido a los altos costos, el arquitecto falleció por causas naturales sin ver un solo dólar por su trabajo a medias, años después su familia recibió el pago que no alcanzó para casi nada, realmente.
Leyendas como ésta hay muchas en las ciudades y parecen fascinar a la población. El hecho es que sigue siendo un edificio impresionante y que merece ser fotografiado.
I took the opportunity to take other pictures of "Las Heras" avenue, showing some other buildings, among them a classic one that is camouflaged among the modern buildings, you can see some bus stations, people walking and in general a little bit of this Recoleta neighborhood.

Aproveché para tomar otras fotos de la avenida "Las Heras", mostrando algunos otros edificios, entre ellos uno clásico que se camufla entre los edificios modernos, se pueden apreciar algunas estaciones de buses, personas caminando y en general un poco de este barrio de Recoleta.
