Hello everyone. This is a story about the passage of time at the El Roble Oxidation Lagoon in Guanabacoa, Cuba.
More than ten years ago, this lagoon was created as a sanitation site for the community. Today, it has become a source of pollution due to human activity, as its surroundings have gradually become populated. Because of this, domestic animals such as goats, horses, and cows appeared. The growing need to feed these animals has led to recent deforestation in the area. This can be seen in the photo of the branch with the spiderweb, where there was once abundant vegetation in the background. Following this deforestation—which the local farmers call 'site cleaning'—Afro-Cuban religious objects were left exposed. Given how worn down they appear, I imagine they have always been there. The lagoon is not just an ecosystem, but also a place of worship.

Hola a todos. Esta es una historia que habla sobre el paso del tiempo en La Laguna de Oxidación de El Roble, Guanabacoa, Cuba.
Hace más de diez años esta laguna se creó para ser un sitio de saneamiento para la comunidad. Hoy en día, se ha convertido en un foco de contaminación debido a la actividad humana, pues sus alrededores han sido poblados. Debido a esto, aparecieron animales domésticos como chivos, caballos y vacas. La necesidad creciente de alimentar a estos animales, ha provocado que hayan deforestado el lugar recientemente. Se puede apreciar en la foto de la rama con telaraña, donde antes había una abundante vegetación en el fondo. Tras esta deforestación, que los campesinos llaman, "limpieza del sitio", quedaron expuestos objetos de culto afrocubanos que, al verse tan desgastados imagino que siempre estuvieron ahí. La laguna no es solo un ecosistema sino también un lugar de culto.
