Of course Balut has been one of the favorite foods of the Filipino people for decades. Have you also wondered why Balut is considered as one of our core identities as Filipinos? Let’s find out! The Balut holds significant historical and cultural importance in our country, the Philippines, tracing its roots back to pre-colonial times. The Balut was already a Filipino favorite and delicacy even before the colonization of Spain, the United States of America, and Japan.

Throughout the history of the Filipinos, Balut has become a staple food and maintains its core identity as original Filipino. Balut is a fertilized developing egg embryo that is boiled, steamed, and eaten from the shell. It is commonly sold on the streets of the Philippines. Balut is an exciting and unique street food that even foreigners are curious to try. Some content creators visited the Philippines just to try some Balut in the streets.

In Filipino culture, Balut holds an important place as it promotes social bonding and unity among friends and family members, especially during late-night outings. Similar to the Dalaguete seawall (a seaside park where Dalaguete locals gather to chill and unwind), you can see many people eat Balut while talking, sharing their thoughts, and gossiping and it builds good relationships together.

Another thing about Balut is that it has become an iconic symbol of Filipino cuisine and is often featured across the world. If foreigners see Balut the first thing they think is the Philippines. Balut also reflects the rich culinary heritage of the Philippines. Balut is a witness of Filipino resiliency and creativity in how to make food that is not pleasant to look at but tastes good, Balut is more than just a food item; It serves as a Filipino cultural emblem, tradition, and a way to make everyone in this world unite through food.
