Monomad: Greenery, Quiet Canals, and the Rains of Goa

in Black And White11 days ago (edited)

Another day, another new day in Goa. It rained heavily for two days, starting in the morning and continuing until evening. It would stop at 10 or 12 at night... Where would we go and what would we see at such a late hour? We would lie in our room all day, eating and scrolling through videos on our mobile phones.

A canal flows about 5 km from Pollalam Beach. There's a nearly 50-year-old bridge, where I stand, watching the boats floating in the canal. There are numerous betel nut and coconut trees. Nature is at its peak during the monsoon season; everything is greener than I've ever seen.

Where else would someone like me, who spends most of his time in the Indian Himalayas, ever see such lush greenery? Far away, a man sits in his small boat in the river, fishing. I spend about two hours on this bridge, and this man, for two hours, just keeps fishing. I love watching his focus.

I go to the beach and pass a church on the way. The church is beautiful and white. I meet a photographer on the beach who clicks photos of tourists, earning some money to support his family during the off-season.

I share some things with him and tell him I also do photography. He talks to me nicely and invites me to his house. I don't go home, but I go to my room where my friends are waiting for me. So this was a day in Goa during the monsoon.

This is my entry for #monomad challenge.
