Playing With the Light - My Autoportret

in Black And White21 days ago (edited)

A few years ago I bought two softboxes to try out a new field of photography. I mainly wanted to play a little with product photography. One day, however, I came up with the idea to take some photos of myself with studio lighting. It was a pure experiment, I was just curious what I can get with simple lighting equipment at home.

It was already quite dark and I decided to take pictures in such a way as to illuminate myself partially and create an interesting, dark effect. I set the camera on a tripod. I used my wife (then still my fiancee) to position the frame accordingly, and then I replaced her in the same place. I used the self-timer in the camera and took two series of nine photos each. Here are the results.

Returning to these photos, I realized how much my appearance has changed over the 5 years that have passed since then. At that time, I worked a lot on the construction site and exercised a lot, I also ate much more caloric meals wanting to build muscle mass. To date, I have lost a large part of this weight and my muscles have also disappeared to a large extent. Looking at these photos, I thought it would be nice to return to such a posture and it kind of motivated me to get back in shape. And by the way, I once again realized how important photography is and how it captures memories that we would often miss without it. It can also be a source of motivation, remind you of old habits, activities and lifestyle. I also returned to many other old photos that I took in 2020, which also caused a lot of thoughts, but I will write about it in other posts.

This is my entry for the #monomad challenge
