Era un día cualquiera. Mientras camina por Prado se va fijando en que ve las mismas caras de siempre. Sentados en su sillas están los vendedores. Artistas y artesanos dispuesto a darte, que no regalarte, un poquito de su talento para que lo lleves a casa.
Ojalá vendan mucho hoy!
Busca un rincón tranquilo. Entiéndase tranquilo como un espacio donde se encuentren menos de 10 personas a una distancia mínima de 5 metros hablando o el nene con su patineta, o la abuelita con su perro.
Tiene un libro que quiere leer. Se lo regaló una amiga desde hace tiempo y aunque no tiene muchas páginas, lo ajetreado de la vida se ha interpuesto entre esas letras y él. Su propósito es terminarlo finalmente.
Vamos mijo, se llama la atención, ponte pa esto y acaba de leer.

es un ritmo de espacios de color:
de blanco sobre negro,
de negro sobre blanco
en el espacio en blanco de la línea,
en el espacio en blanco de la página,

Su pensamiento se pierde brevemente en la magia de la lectura, al fin.
Una pelota le golpea la cara.
Se acerca una mamá muy avergonzada, a recoger el balón que su pequeño bebé le arrojó como si fuera una portería de fútbol.
Un grupito de muchachos se ríe de lo que le pasó. Uff, piensa, yo también era así de guanajo con esa edad? Se ríe, porque recuerda que no, de hecho, era peor.
En aquel momento su pensamiento eran las niñas, poder decir a sus amigos que por fin ya lo "había hecho". Qué tontería. Sí que lo había hecho: tronco de ridículo que, por supuesto no le contó a nadie.
De pronto ve un grupo de personas, bastantes, cámara en mano. Piensa primero, seguro que son yumas. Pero los escucha hablando y no cabe duda de que son más cubanos que la yuca con mojo.
Un par de ellos, un hombre y una mujer, lo miran y caminan hacia él. Su corazón comienza a ir a 1000 por hora. Quieren hacerle algunos retratos. Acepta de inmediato! Resulta que ahora es modelo! ja!
Como ironía de la vida, le piden que pose con su libro, que siga con lo que estaba haciendo normalmente y de vez en cuando mirara a la cámara o cambiara de postura. Si supieran que lleva rato intentando leer!
Cuando terminan, se despiden y comparten contactos. la luz de sol se va poniendo y comienzan a aparecer los farolillos encendido. Los arboles que hasta hace un rato apenas daban sombra, ahora se arrojan sobre él para impedirle leer otra linea.
Hoy tampoco sera el día que termine este libro. Pero si es le día en que quedó registrado para siempre, que al menos estaba intentando leer.

As an irony of life, they ask him to pose with his book, go on with what he was normally doing and every now and then look at the camera or change his pose. If they only knew that he has been trying to read for a while!
When they finish, they say goodbye and share contacts. The sunlight is setting and the lanterns begin to appear. The trees that until a while ago barely gave shade, now throw themselves on him to prevent him from reading another line.
Today will not be the day he finishes this book either. But it is the day when it was recorded forever, that at least he was trying to read.
