Motorcycle Stunts: Breaking Down Prejudice-Monomad challenge

Motorcycles are a widely used means of transportation around the world, and Venezuela is no exception.

It's worth noting that in Latin America (I'm not sure if the same happens in Asia), there's a prejudice against motorcyclists because people often assume they are criminals.

I always say that behind every stereotype, there's a grain of truth (though I don't justify discrimination). My point is that many criminals do use motorcycles to commit their crimes.

I grew up in a neighborhood with a lot of motorcycles. As a result, every time I heard one, I felt fear.

Part of the stereotype also involves the appearance of motorcyclists, which is typically associated with lower-class individuals and a "malandra" attitude.

The "malandra" attitude has many nuances, which isn't the focus of this post. However, the good thing about stereotypes is that they are just that—stereotypes. Mistakes make us reflect on them.

This realization hit me when I heard about motorcycle stunts, which were recently classified as a sport by dictator Nicolás Maduro as part of his vote-catching strategy during the presidential campaign.

I had the opportunity to talk to some practitioners, and they are aware that most of society rejects them.

One of them told me, "Motorcycle stunts are indeed a sport because they require balance, precision, and strength like any other discipline.

"I am a family man and a worker. I am not a criminal. I just have a passion for this sport and for baseball."

He also acknowledged that many practice in unsuitable areas, such as avenues, streets, and residential zones, posing a danger to others.

Many are minors whose immaturity prevents them from considering the risks; they are only drawn to the adrenaline but also have a desire to be part of something.

One of the practice spots is an abandoned racetrack, where I observed that, like any group or community, there are bonds, values, and codes that make it functional.

The sport still lacks a lot in terms of infrastructure and performance. Compared to stunt riders from other countries, they have limited skills.

However, they have taken a step "supported" by the dictatorship. The truth is that with or without it, they will continue to pursue their passion.
