The other day, I was walking in the city center and heard someone with a not-so-pleasant voice.

It was a young man with a speaker and a sign hanging around his neck.

He said he was blind and was asking for help (money) by ‘singing’ to passersby.

And I say ‘singing’ because he wasn’t really doing it.

However, several people gave him money, and I know it wasn’t for his talent, or even out of pity, but because it takes a lot of bravery and courage to do something without having the knowledge.

I’m not trying to romanticize his need, but to admire the willpower of many people. It seems unfair to me that circumstances sometimes push us to act against our will.

There was a moment when, while he was singing out of tune, I realized this and approached to take photos.

And I photographed his surroundings: people going about their daily lives, and he was a part of it, even if they didn't know it.

En estos días estaba caminando en el Centro y escucho a alguien con una voz poco agraciada.

Era un joven con una corneta con un cartel que guindaba alrededor de su cuello.

Decía que era ciego y que buscaba ayuda (dinero), y a cambio “cantaba” a los transeúntes.

Y digo “cantaba” porque no lo sabía realmente.

Sin embargo, varias personas le daban dinero, y sé que no era por su talento, ni siquiera por lástima, sino que se requiere de mucho valor y coraje para hacer algo sin tener el conocimiento.

No busco romantizar su necesidad, sino admirar la voluntad de muchas personas, y que me parece injusto que haya circunstancias que nos empujan a actuar a veces en contra de nuestra voluntad.

Hubo un momento, en el que mientras cantaba notas desafinadas, me di cuenta de esto y me acerqué a hacer fotos, y fotografié su alrededor, la gente en lo suyo, en el día a día y él era parte de eso, aunque ellos no lo supieran.
