In the outskirts of Barquisimeto, although it is actually part of the city, there is a small town called Santa Rosa del Cerrito, more commonly known as Santa Rosa, where the Basilica of St. Rose of Lima is located, a Catholic temple that houses the image of the Divine Shepherdess (Divina Pastora), a Marian devotion that originated in the city of Seville around 1700, and arrived in Venezuela a few years later, in 1740.
The windows of the church have beautiful and colorful stained glass windows that have been donated by individuals, families and local businesses over time. These are located both in the lower level, at the height of the parishioners and visitors, as well as in the upper part of the walls, which can be appreciated from below.
A stained glass window, also known as polychrome stained glass, is an artistic composition made with stained glass, painted or coated with enamel, which are assembled by means of lead rods, and usually represent religious figures or scenes.
The stained glass windows were already commonly used in the temples of ancient Rome, but reached its peak in Gothic architecture, from where they are becoming widespread from the thirteenth century, undergoing various transformations, both in size and in their processing techniques, although the methodology is basically the same as used since medieval times, in terms of cutting a pattern, painting and subsequent firing in a kiln.
I have taken these photographs during my frequent visits to the town of Santa Rosa, and as I have described in previous publications, I intervene the original images using the editing tools offered by the Picsart and Snapseed applications, for which I commonly use an overlay of filters, in addition to modifying the values of contrast, saturation, light and shadow, among other parameters.
En las cercanías de Barquisimeto, aunque en realidad ya forma parte de la ciudad; existe un pequeño poblado llamado Santa Rosa del Cerrito, más comúnmente conocido como Santa Rosa, donde se encuentra la Basílica de Santa Rosa de Lima, un templo católico que alberga la imagen de la Divina Pastora, una advocación mariana que tuvo su origen en la ciudad de Sevilla alrededor de 1700, y que llegó a Venezuela unos años después, en 1740.
Las ventanas de la iglesia cuentan con hermosos y coloridos vitrales que han sido donados por personas, familias y empresas locales en el transcurso del tiempo. Estos se encuentran ubicados, tanto en el nivel inferior, a la altura de los feligreses y visitantes, como en la parte superior de sus paredes, los cuales son pueden ser apreciados desde abajo.
Un vitral, también conocido como vidriera policromada, es una composición artística elaborada con vidrios de colores, pintados o recubiertos con esmaltes, que se ensamblan mediante varillas de plomo, y que usualmente representan figuras o escenas religiosas.
Los vitrales ya eran de uso común en los templos de la antigua Roma, pero alcanzan su mayor auge en la arquitectura gótica, desde donde van generalizándose a partir del Siglo XIII, experimentando diversas transformaciones, tanto en su tamaño como en sus técnicas de elaboración, aunque la metodología es básicamente la misma que se emplea desde la era medieval, en cuanto al corte de un patrón, pintura y posterior cocción en horno.
Estas fotografías las he tomado durante las frecuentes visitas que realizo al pueblo de Santa Rosa, y como he descrito en publicaciones anteriores, intervengo las imágenes originales haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed, para lo cual, empleo comúnmente una superposición de filtros, además de modificar los valores de contraste, saturación, luz y sombra, entre otros parámetros.
