My maternal grandfather was a significant figure in my upbringing as a child, which is why when I see scenes like this on the street, of abandoned elderly people, it makes me so sad. I don't usually share these kinds of images, but they caught my attention because these were elderly people who weren't begging for money, as is so often seen in that part of town, but were just sitting there, like lifeless figures, watching life go by, completely abandoned. I tried very hard not to let them see me taking the photo, being very discreet. I hope this is not how the rest of their days will be, because every day these images are becoming more common. Here they are...

Mi abuelo materno fue una figura representativa en mi formación desde niño, por eso, cuando veo escenas así en la calle, de ancianos abandonados, me da tanta tristeza. No soy de compartir este tipo de imágenes, pero me llamaron tanto la atención porque eran ancianos que no pedían dinero, como se ve con tanta frecuencia por esa zona de la ciudad, sino que estaban allí, como figuras inertes, esperando ver la vida pasar, en total abandono. Traté por todos los medios que no me vieran hacerles la foto, con mucha discreción. Ojalá y no sea así el resto de sus días, porque cada día estas imágenes se hacen más habituales. A continuación se las comparto...
Cómo les mencioné antes, no es mi propósito hacer fotos de la miseria, todo lo contrario, es una crítica social a aquellos que están en poder y responsabilidad de ayudar y no lo hacen.
¡Cuidemos a nuestros viejitos, que ellos nos dieron la vida!

What a wonderful sentence, what a wonderful message. Unfortunately, I no longer have my parents, I no longer have those who gave me life with me. But I am a parent myself, and I am also a grandmother to grown grandchildren, I am 61 years old..... I sincerely hope that in my old age, or God forbid illness, they will give me as much, at least as much as I gave to my parents, but at least as much as I have given to them and their children so far, my beloved grandchildren. I truly sincerely hope.

Mucho valor tiene lo que has hecho hoy (y siempre), pero bueno, este de hoy es especial. Los abuelos debieran ser tratados diferente, y los nietos tratarlos diferente. Yo, que no los tengo conmigo ya, sé lo que valen y cuánto no diera por tenerlos otra vez, y sin embargo hay quienes sí los tienen y los abandonan a su suerte. En fin... Me gustan mucho tus fotos.
