Where the shadows wait for me. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Hello friends,

Every time I go to Havana to take street photos, it's quite an adventure. Let me tell you: at 5:00 a.m. I'm already up and moving quickly, because at 8:00 the train to the city leaves. At first, it wasn't so crowded, but with transportation being so difficult, it's getting harder and harder to find a decent seat that isn't so dangerous, but hey... you have to take risks. The trip isn't that long, about 45 minutes, and I'm already arriving in the city. As soon as I get off, I automatically go into photo hunting mode.

These snapshots 📸 are my submission for the #monomad challenge by @monochromes and @brumest.

Sometimes I go with a clear idea of what I want to do, I try to plan it so I don't wander around aimlessly, but it doesn't always work. Often I just walk and find scenes that catch my attention.

This time it was the shadows. It's amazing how you train your eyes and start noticing things that used to go unnoticed. Every time I reached a corner, there was a shadow waiting for me.

And of course, shadows also mean reflections... it would be unforgivable to pass them by and leave them there.

This cat, for example, was in just the right place at the right time: in the middle of a park that was almost completely dark, with the light shining only on him. It was fate, 😃

When I was a child, we used to do something that you hardly ever see today: we would throw our shoes at the power lines. With how expensive they are now, that habit has been lost, but every now and then you still see one hanging there.

That's how I spend my day: walking, stopping to rest or have a coffee from time to time, and continuing until it's time to catch the train back. That's pretty much my photography routine most days.

Hola amigos

Cada vez que voy a La Habana a hacer fotos de calle es toda una aventura. Les cuento: a las 5:00 a.m. ya estoy de pie, y rápido, porque a las 8 pasa el tren hacia la ciudad. Al principio no iba tan lleno, pero con lo difícil que está el transporte, cada vez se complica más encontrar un asiento decente y que no sea tan peligroso, pero bueno… hay que arriesgarse. El viaje no es tan largo, unos 45 minutos, y ya estoy llegando a la ciudad. Apenas me bajo, entro automáticamente en modo cacería fotográfica.

A veces voy con una idea clara de lo que quiero hacer, trato de planificarlo para no andar caminando sin rumbo, pero no siempre funciona. A menudo simplemente camino y voy encontrando escenas que me llaman la atención.

Esta vez el motivo fueron las sombras. Es increíble cómo uno va educando la vista y empieza a notar cosas que antes pasaban desapercibidas. Cada vez que llegaba a una esquina, ahí me estaba esperando una sombra.

Y claro, quien dice sombras también dice reflejos… sería imperdonable pasar de largo y dejarlos ahí.

Este gato, por ejemplo, estaba justo en el lugar y el momento perfectos: en medio de un parque casi a oscuras, con la luz cayendo solo sobre él. Cosas del destino, jajajaja.

Cuando era niño hacíamos algo que hoy casi no se ve: lanzábamos los zapatos a los cables eléctricos. Con lo caros que están ahora, esa costumbre se perdió, pero de vez en cuando todavía aparece alguno colgando.

Así paso el día: caminando, deteniéndome a descansar o a tomar un café de vez en cuando, y sigo hasta que se acerca la hora de regreso del tren. Esa es, más o menos, mi rutina fotográfica la mayoría de los días.
