When the history of Cuban fire brigades is told, it often begins with the rivalry between the first two fire corps in Havana: the Municipal Fire Brigade and the Commercial Fire Brigade. However, that story ends with a warm embrace that united them, as they fought side by side against the tongues of flame at the Isasi warehouse on 17 May 1890. I’m not sure if you remember the post where I mentioned it.
The tragedy in Matanzas was deeply painful, and it was also considered one of the worst industrial disasters in Cuba’s history… and it happened at a very difficult time for the country — well, things are always difficult here, really.
