Monomad challenge - BW - Birds of water habitats

in Black And White2 months ago

I'm participating in the #monomad challenge with this post.

Title: BW - Birds of water habitats

I'm going to show you some pictures of the most common and numerous freshwater birds.

Mallards are the most numerous species of wild duck. They are found in almost all rivers, lakes, ponds, and canals.

Common moorhens are most often found on the coast with dense vegetation where they skilfully hide and nest. They are usually found in larger groups and I was happy to watch them cross the tiny frozen canal to escape the dogs that people were walking.

Mute swans are not so numerous and are mostly territorial. It is rare to see a large number of these large birds in one location. They are mostly found in pairs and sometimes they can be accompanied by other birds like the mandarin duck.

Eurasian coots are also very numerous and can often be seen in and around the water. It is easily recognized by its characteristic white beak and bill, and black feathers.

The great cormorant frequents different bodies of water, although it is mostly found on major rivers and lakes. This bird generally uses adjacent trees to dry its feathers after diving to capture fish.
