Scales or feathers or...?

in Black And White2 days ago

I met a friend earlier today and she had just returned from vacations in central America, with jaw dropping photos of a bunch of cool animals. I do get my fair share of wildlife encounters here, but I'm missing longer travels abroad, and wildlife that doesn't exist in my country.

The first ever land turtle that I've found in the wild is a great example of this. And for this beauty, I didn't even had to change continent!

Birds will always be over represented in these posts, since it's the wildlife more easy to see. Although for this #monomad challenge, I decided to give other species a place in the spotlight as well.

Don't be surprised, mr. goose; It's more than fair, right? Because you might be hard not to notice... but a featherless and scaleless creature suspended in mid air could easily go unnoticed!

It was actually pretty hard to get this one focused on camera, due to the light and the overall environment; but I'm glad I pulled it off. It was taken in a natural park in Albania, and if someone knows the species, please let me know! I'm not exactly a spider fan, but this ones's pattern is awesome. Besides, they are really useful, eating a ton of pests!

Back to the posers, this is one that likes to shine to the camera. The common stonechat usually chooses the top of the branches to perch, making it easy to get pretty decent clicks; this one is a female, but males tend to be as vain.

If you can join two nature's highlights, such as wildlife and the golden hour, the scene just gets better. And sometimes you don't even have to venture into the far wild: I could witness this cutie enjoying the last rays of sunshine in an urban park!

And to wrap it up, let's finish how we started: with scales. Reptiles are amazing creatures, and for most of the portuguese encounters, they tend to be brief, as they dart to a hiding place or away from your sight. Lucky encounters happen also, though.

What's better than one reptile? Three of them! Different species, getting along nicely, as humans should too. So many good lessons to learn from nature... 🙂

Tell me about that my friend! Well, at least we both have photo archives full of cool wildlife pictures, just like those you posted above ;)

Ahahah true! I still have a ton of vacation days, but having to put out several "fires" at work, hopefully calmer days ahead, and more travelling. Hope you're doing great! Cheers! !BBH

Woww, great Close Up Shots, nice animals, but this turtle is still the most beautiful.
