Innocence in Motion… for the #monomad challenge

in Black And White8 days ago

Hello lovers of the black and white photography. Long time without be here…. Today i wanna bring you my last experience taking photos to a child… I hope you enjoy this text. Greeting!!
Photographing a one year old child is, without exaggeration, one of the greatest challenges for any photographer. There are no predictable poses, no patience, no second takes, only fleeting moments that vanish like sunlight through the leaves. This session, held at the National Botanical Garden of Cuba, became a delicate dance between chaos and tenderness, between technique and instinct.

Shooting a child that young isn’t about controlling the scene; it’s about learning to flow with it. Every gesture, every fleeting look demands readiness before it even happens. All the while, the parents are watching, suggesting, correcting, believing they know what the “best shot” should be, without realizing that the real magic lies in the natural, not the planned. It’s not a lack of trust, it’s love… yet sometimes that love blinds them to what the lens truly sees.

For this series, I used my Canon 5D Mark III, pairing the soft character of the Helios lens with the depth of the Praktica 135mm f/2.8. Both helped me craft the contrast that only spontaneity can bring. I chose to present these images in black and white, because I wasn’t chasing color, I was chasing essence. Innocence doesn’t need saturation; its light is enough.

Amid laughter, movement, and curious eyes, I found those rare seconds of truth, when the girl wasn’t posing or pretending, she was simply herself. And in that brief freedom, photography became what it was always meant to be: an honest gaze at the unrepeatable.
