Questions without answer

Hello, folks!

Today my post is for Daily Monomad Challenge.

I captured these pictures a few months ago in Göbeklitepe at the main excavation site, where the remains of the most ancient civilization were discovered. Its true purpose has long remained unclear.

By now, four circular structures are unearthed. They are on the eldest layer. Monolithic columns are connected by walls of untreated stone into a round or oval structure.

The columns of the temples are decorated with stone carvings in the form of animals and abstract icons. It's not a script yet, but depicting of the common sacred symbols of their culture. Whose?

In the basins of the Euphrates, Tigris, and Jordan rivers, defined as the Fertile Crescent in the Near East, people lived 12 thousand years ago. Now we know that.

Who were prehistoric people, and where do they come from? Whom did they worship here in this oldest and largest worship center in history?

To the archeologists these findings might suggest a novel theory of civilization. Scholars have long believed that only after people learned to farm and live in settled communities they begun to construct temples and support complicated social structures. But perhaps it was the other way around.

While listening to the story, I see details on the columns. Some are blank, while others are elaborately carved: foxes, lions, scorpions and vultures abound, twisting and crawling on the pillars' broad sides.

Anyway, there are a lot to dig and learn for scientists here. And for an amateur photographer.

Thanks for your time and attention! See you around.

Amazing! I wonder who these people were and what they valued...

Are any, perhaps all - I do not know - of the animals depicted in these stones native to that area? I always wonder if these are from everyday life, or memories of some other place.

Thanks for your post!

Cheers!

This is a very good question also!
