For whatever reason, I had the urge to revisit Guru’s first Jazzmatazz album this week. After not hearing it for a decade or more, I was really impressed to find out that it was even better than I had remembered it.
It’s really hard to pick just one song from this album, but since I very much feel the lyrics of the song above (Never no time to play. Gotta get working’ every day.), this is the one I’m sharing.
After listening to Jazzmatazz, I spent a lot of time revisiting early Native Tongue albums and early 90s East Coast hip hop. Doing so brought back a lot of memories for me, which very randomly made me remember this album by Josh Ritter.
I always liked this opening song. Something about the chaotic feel of the intro and the line I love the way you look in your underwear. I don’t know why, it just does it for me.
This is from an album that I listen to endlessly every spring. I don’t know why, but I do.
Again, it’s hard to separate only one song from the album, but today I’m choosing this one. It makes me want to dance, and it speaks to the place I’m in.
