How I got Into Blockchain Games: Axie Infinity

in Axie Buzz3 years ago (edited)
Like a blind a cat that has found a dead rat. That is how I consider myself when I have learned about blockchain games and Axie Infinity.

Years ago, I may have read articles about "Bitcoin", "Cryptocurrency" and "Mining". Those topics have been too far out of reach for me to understand as those topics have always been shrouded by jargon and terminologies like a mist restricting my eyesight. The only thing I understood at that time was that, "Miners of Bitcoin make lots of money".

Sadly, I was too unaware and uneducated about “cryptocurrency”.... Who am I kidding, the real reason I did not try to understand it further was because of money. It was too expensive. Mining bitcoin requires money. So I ignored it.

Just recently as I browsed the web, I stumbled upon shocking and even baffling news. They were talking about NFT. “This NFT sold like XXXXX dollars!”. Once again I ignored it due to the sheer stupidity of the idea. Oh boy I was wrong. I’m the actual stupid one.

But one day, I stumbled upon another piece of news. This time the website seems legitimate, aside from the “click-bait” title. A title which has been direct and truthful from the very beginning. This time however, I read it.

“People in the Philippines are earning cryptocurrency during the pandemic by playing a video game - CNBC”

It shocked me. “Play-to-earn?”, I ask myself.

I was stupefied. I searched high and low. “How to play Axie Infinity”. Then reality slapped me once more. It requires money ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). I was disappointed. So I searched for other games like Axie Infinity. I stumbled upon Ethermon; then found bitcoin bounce; then I found many more. But there is something lacking. Earnings. Real money I can slap my face. Not spare change. It hurts to get hit with that.

Once again, I tried reading how to play Axie Infinity. Lo and behold, the holy grail of peasants like me, Axie Lending Program also called “Scholarship”. So I googled for scholarships. Found one, checked their Facebook account and applied. Then I checked their discord server. It was disappointing. Everyone was just greeting one another. “Good day”. “Good Morning”. “Hello”. Like robots. I tried making conversation but nobody answered. So I left.

After a week of calming down from the excitement, I was back to what I was before. Browsing Reddit, watching Youtube, reading books and being lazy. Until I saw another scholarship program on Youtube. It sparked something in me once again. So I applied once more. I entered their discord and was surprised. “No greeting bots?!”

To be continued~

Welcome to Axie Buzz @grenfunkel and congratz on your first publication!

You'r story about entering the blockchain gaming space is quite similar to mine. Wish I've done it much earlier. I've known about Axies when they going for like 5 bucks a pop while now the average value must be somewhere in the 500 dollar range.

My starter team set me back more than a thousand dollars while I could have gotten it for less than 30 bucks, if I was smart enough to get in before the hype.

Either way, it's been one of the best decisions I've made in crypto so far.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am really also very excited right now. I have just bought my very first axie for 0.3 eth yesterday. :)

Hello @grenfunkel! This is @traciyork from the @ocd (Original Content Decentralized) curation team. We noticed you shared your first post here on Hive - congratulations and welcome! It would also be awesome if you could do an introduction post, so our community can get to know you better. For an example of what an intro post is like, you can check out this one by my friend & curation team member -

Keeping Up With the Buzz - My Introduction to the Hive Community.

I also noticed you published this same article on Publish0x and while that's not an issue, it would be helpful to curators on both sites if you could include links in your posts (as in, "also published on Hive" on Publish0x and vice versa here). That way the community knows you're the owner of the content, and not someone random trying to profit off your awesomeness. :)

Speaking of community, we have many different ones here on the blockchain, devoted to all kinds of interests. Here's a link so you can check them all out - Hive Communities

Also, as Hive can sometimes be quite confusing, the newly launched Newbies Guide should be helpful to you, as it is a growing repository of useful and easy to understand posts about how the Hive ecosystem works.

And since you're new, you may run into an RC (Resource Credits) error when trying to comment/post because you don't yet have enough Hive in your account yet. For assistance with a temporary delegation to get you started, be sure to check out the Gift Giver site.

For now, @lovesniper will follow your account and we are looking forward to seeing your expanded intro post. Also, please mention (also known as tagging) @traciyork & @lovesniper in your intro post in order for us to be notified, so we can consider your post for OCD curation. Lastly, feel free to hop into the OCD Discord server if you have any questions!

Yes sir! I will make an intro soon :)
