LKP's Axie Log #41: Losing Streaks and How we deal with them

Hello there Axie pips!

If there is one thing most of us hate in the game it's definitely losing streaks. There's a saying that losing is part of any game and that is right. Learning comes when we take into consideration what made us lose. It's how we grow as players or gamers in a particular game that we play. Success is built upon tons of failure, isn't it? But to continuously lose several times over is bit different, especially in a game where real world money is involve. For some it might just be matter of pride but there are others whose way of living are entirely dependent over a win or a loss.

The last time we mentioned that we had a losing streak. It's not a good feeling losing 5-8 games in a row, but for me it's not something to waste time thinking about it. I remembered watching a motivational video about a glass of water. The speaker asked the audience (in this case I think his students) how much did a glass of water he was holding weighed. The students guessed, speaking numerical value in ounces. The speaker said that it depends on how much long you are holding that glass. Hold it for minute then it's light, by the hour it gets heavier and if you hold it for a day your arm and shoulder would become very weary.

It's like dealing with problems. The more you think about it, the more it becomes a burden to your mind and body. A particular group which I think might be heavily affected by losing streaks are the scholars who play for their needs and are dependent on their daily SLP earnings to make everyday living. You might say that all scholars in axie infinity are needy but I beg to disagree. There are others who just applied for scholarships because they just want to experience the game without taking much financial risks on their side. Some of them are even friends of the managers so there's no daily quota required which is less stressful compared to those who have daily quotas to fill.

In my case I'm not a scholar but do feel their frustrations when I think about it. I don't have to satisfy others expectations or daily requirements but it doesn't mean the I do not feel burdened when I had losing streaks. I have personal expectations for myself which also stresses me from time to time when I do not managed to meet them. It's okay to be stressed or be burdened just be sure to not hold it for too long. Like our comparison earlier with the glass of water it becomes painful the longer you hold it.

Anyways, it might not be as helpful and I might not be the right person to give this advice (Duh! i'm the average-est player you could find) but here are some tips I do when I'm on a losing streak.

1. Break the Rhythm

When I'm in a losing streak for 5 or more matches I do certain things to break the rhythm. In my experience the monotonous thinking of 'I have lost long enough, the next game should be mine' is not a good thing because it clouds my decision and conditions my mind to rush a win rather than concentrate on the process of achieving it. Taking a break for some time has proven helpful in my case. Slow and steady. There's plenty of time within a day. I usually do chores or focus on other things for hours before I come back to the game. I might still lose but now I know that my mind is clear enough and I'm sane enough to make decisions that I would not regret later on.

2. Set a Schedule

If you're encountering losing streaks in particular time frame within a day then you could set a schedule to play in a period when you win often. If you already knew that you are losing in more in this particular time frame, why would you still grind your day here? Unless your schedule is jam-packed and you got no choice take the chance to play in the time of the day when you are likely to win more games. It would be less stressful and would also help in managing your time for other daily activities. Axie Infinity is a fun game but you have a life to live.

3. Replay and Research

This is one of the most painful way to improve your standing and to lessen future losing streaks. But undeniably this is the most effective in my experience. Like we said earlier, there would be times that our decisions would be blinded by the rush to get even for our recent consecutive losses. If we forgot about getting slow and steady we still have another option. Studying our previous matches would be helpful as we can plan future actions.

What teams are we losing to most of the time? If we made a pass this round could we have won the game? Are we weak against termis or double aquas?

We can formulate questions and try answering them while watching our previous matches. There's also lots of tutorials in youtube and other platforms. It would take time but you can certainly find an almost similar match up and learn from it. We could also do mock matches after we spent all of our energy for the day. But better be sure that we are in the right state of the mind. Either we win or lose we can still absorb something from it that we could use later on compared to blindly practicing without learning anything.

At the end of the day Axie Infinity is still just game that is supposed to be enjoyed. Do not let losing streaks tired or stressed you out. Whether your a casual player or playing for a living you are bound to experience pressure from time to time. the difference is whether you turned it into something productive or just let it burden you. Good luck to all of us. Happy grinding!

And that is all for today.
Thank you for visiting and see you soon.

Ciao~
