parkrun is a worldwide network of free weekly 5km events. These generally happen at 9am every Saturday. You register to get a barcode that will be scanned to record your time, but there are no prizes or fees for participants. You can just walk if you want to get out for some exercise. It relies on volunteers giving a little of their time and that can be as often as you want.
This community is dedicated to gathering information about those events. We should pin them to the @worldmappin map and use the #parkrun tag to make the posts easy to find. If you are travelling then you can check the map for nearby events and possibly find information about things like:
- Parking and other travel information.
- Toilets and refreshments.
- The type of course and possible hazards.
- The typical number of runners.
Be sure to include plenty of photos.
Some of this information is available on the parkrun site, but we can expand on that and make it more interactive. If you run at one of the listed events then you can add your own review in a comment. Some people on Hive travel a lot and like to visit parkrun locations, so there is scope to build quite a list.
Please link to the official page of the event so people can check it is still active or if anything has changed.
We welcome suggestions on how this can be made more useful. One thought is to include a hashtag for each country using the nation code, e.g. parkrun-uk or parkrun-de.
This is not intended for people to post their all running activities and posts will be moderated. You can log your runs on Hive via the @strava2hive service if you use Strava. It is allowed do a one-off post here for an event that includes your run if it also includes useful information about the event.
There is already a parkrun community on Hive, but it appears to be dormant and the owner has not been active in some time.
Wow! nice work, that was quick. I fell asleep, woke up and you had it all set up. I have not used the https://worldmappin.com #parkrun search before. looks great. It even has a leader board this could really catch on in the parkrun tourist world. @parkrunmayor check this out! I have not used the get a code for the location either travelfeed does that automatically but it seems easy to generate and add to a post. I am sure I have plenty more locations to cross post and some new ones I have not done yet to add!
Cheers
Have fun with it.
I do a few myself . It’s a good initiative.
Cheers. I can do a few for places I have been. I need to be sure to get some photos.
Would be great 😎🤙
This is a very awesome idea, I haven't done a parkrun in a while due to work schedule and injury but if i manage to get time off, i may go again and do a walk and run parkrun hehe. i look forward to seeing what happens going forward :)
If you can get a few photos then that's worth including. It will be interesting to see how many we can log. I need to re-visit some local ones to get more photos and details.
Yh that is a good idea, i might be able to put something together with the pics I took during a parkrun in the winter
