About a month ago, I had to go to Koper for an ultrasound scan because there isn’t a clinic like that where I live.
I took the old road instead of the highway, and on the way back I stopped for coffee and took the opportunity to shoot the landscape - mainly because of this viaduct, which is, to say the least, very impressive.

It’s also a popular spot for photography, especially in the fog or at sunset. Well, it was very sunny and clear here, around noon.
A quick photo blog while I was drinking coffee. A shot of espresso - so just a couple of minutes :)

It is the longest and highest viaduct in Slovenia and one of the largest bridge structures on Slovenian highways. It's named after the nearby village of Črni Kal. It spans the valley over a horizontal radius of about 800 m and allows the highway to descend from an elevation of about 420 m to the coast. (I found this exact data with Google Lens).

The trail is just over a kilometer long, and its highest point is 95 meters. Because of the strong bora wind, which can reach speeds of up to 200 km per hour, it is equipped with a protective railing.

It opened in 2004, completing the highway connection that runs through Slovenia - from Austria in the northeast (from Maribor) to Koper in the southwest, to Italy.

Due to its geology, wind conditions, length, and location within the landscape, it is considered one of the most challenging bridge structures in Slovenia. The Gabrovica railway viaduct also runs beneath it.

Here’s one of my older photos of the bridge, taken in the fog - I actually posted it seven years ago :)
Back then, the railway viaduct wasn’t there yet. 😎

The data you're sharing about the wind strength is really interesting. The views from up there must be spectacular!
Yes, it is :)
