One of the infamous quotes I have heard in our fundamentals on Business Administration subject is, "Leaders are not born. They are made." Initially, being a leader didn't come naturally to me because I've always been known to be introverted and less outgoing. Social interactions were not my forte, but circumstances pushed me into leadership roles. It is one of their impressions, though. They said I'm always quiet, while most classmates thought I was smart. I created a series of friends and had experience in leadership when I was in high school. But things turned more exciting when I started my journey as a college student. I still have this introverted side, but I've started to develop various leadership skills.
Why I'm always chosen or often volunteer to be a leader?
One of the reasons why I lead most of the group activities is because I'm diligent. I can't classify myself as intelligent only because I can get most of the highest grades on exams or quizzes. Let's assume I only made a mistake from our recent quiz in Basic Microeconomics. It doesn't only define how smart I am. We all have different types of intelligence, and I believe I'm not yet halfway through the intelligence standards. I have this gut feeling that we all have different types of intelligence, and my diligence makes me excel in others. I'm diligent in learning from others and through my mistakes.
What are the group activities that I have led?
During my first year of college, I led these activities:
First Semester
- HIS 007: Reporting (Trio)
- BAM 191: Business Interview and AVP
- BAM 191: Group Quiz
- GEN 002: Community Immersion
- GEN 003: Infomercial
Second Semester
- NST 002: Out-of-school Youth Home School Learning
- GEN 001: Nonfiction Storytelling and Story Review
- GEN 004: Exploring Your Hometown Beyond Its History
- GEN 005: Reporting/Reflection/Flyers
- MAT 152: Business Plan Proposal + Presentation
I don't know what I missed, but here are some activities I have led. For some, it is only easy-peasy. However, honestly, it was mind-draining. I thought I would not survive the stress that the last semester gave me, including my unsupportive parents, who almost failed me to accomplish them.
What is my favorite group project I've led?
Of course, the business plan proposal with an additional presentation in front. I love this group workflow since we can deliver the presentation smoothly despite endless revisions. The most challenging part was the financial projection since one of my group mates recommended selling various snacks. Since she's exposed in this business, I just gave a thumbs up. It was something I could say was my most significant accomplishment since I could turn my plans into reality.
I was tasked to be a leader in it, and two of my groupmates have talent in public speaking. One of them helped me generate the whole business plan, while the other is good at explaining. The other I haven't mentioned is my headache since he's enjoying his life and making broken promises. He said he would print the paper that I'd sacrificed my sleep, but he didn't show up. During the creation of the paper, I announced in our group chat that the ideas I needed for that specific question would only be at 9 PM.
Of course, he did that, but he answered me philosophically. I can't explain it in detail since it makes my blood high. I still want to include him because I'm afraid to get in trouble due to his fraternity issues. Good thing our professor strikethrough his name with a red pen, and I don't give a fuck. My classmates also pleased me to remove his name from the list, and the safest answer I said was that I made an asterisk as a form of consideration.
What is my most headache group project?
Most of them are my headaches, so I'm struggling to rank what's the highest. However, here are the projects that cause me anger issues.
- BAM 191: Business Interview and AVP
- GEN 003: Infomercial
- NST 002: Out-of-school Youth Tutorial Session
I've already written how much my blood rose about companionship with my groupmates, and I still feel like I would bring it up until I graduate. I want to explain it further since I was not writing about the tutorial session yet.
NST 002: Out-of-school Youth Tutorial Session
Last time, I volunteered to lead our OSY Tutorial Session for our NSTP subject. It is where I'm in charge of organizing the learning materials we'll present to the student we teach. I led in giving their tasks, and I also did my part. I tasked one of my groupmates with the materials since that was the only thing I knew she could contribute. I asked two of my groupmates to print the printed handouts we made with my other three groupmates, and one of them will teach the chosen out-of-school youth. That's how leadership works.
My groupmate said she brought the sticky notes and printed the learning materials we prepared. But when we were going to present, I asked her about it, and she said she couldn't find it. Little did she know, one of my concerned friends reported that she said something inappropriate behind my back. Maybe she told me that since I'm always giving her tasks about printing and other stationary materials.
If she can't contribute to learning materials and from suggestions of OSY, what's her other excuse not to follow that simple order? She can't even get the simplest situation. I didn't know what I said wrong, so I only gave the task that I knew that she could do. She is goddamn insensitive and feels entitled. She also said I'm not a good leader, and all my groupmates had previously hated me from the GEN 003 group.
It made my blood boil like a hot spring, and I didn't want to confront her since it was not worth my time. She's also starting to make some shared posts about me, and that's freaking annoying. No wonder we always avoid her during groupings, and even her considered friends say something not nice. Good thing she's already dropped out because it's not worth it.
Conclusion
Being a leader is a difficult but gratifying task. I hope that this school year, I will avoid those lazy and entitled groupmates. If I can adjust to their situations, I hope they also know their priorities.

To be honest it is my dream to be leader when I was in elementary but pagtungtong ko ng highschool I experienced what I wanted HAHA sa una masaya pero now medyo nakakapagod na! HAHAAH
If you want to become a leader like example managerial positions in the future, you should develop the public speaking skills. Ang laking advantage unless you will go for freelancing.
