As part of our quest to educate and bring the Caribbean up to speed regarding crypto and blockchain technology, the Carib DAO sponsors monthly Bitcoin and Blockchain Workshops starting with the basics.
Our Monthly Blockchain Workshops help to:
- Teach local small business owners and consumers how to accept/spend crypro
- Attract Caribbean artists, musicians and creators interested in NFTs
- Onboard Carib DAO members and introduce Web3 (Hive)
- Raise awareness and distribute CARIB
- Groundwork and market research for the Blockchain Institute of Negril
Workshops are scheduled for the second Saturday of very month, and we will publish our DAO calendar in the coming days.

The April 2022 Workshop
We held our last workshop on Saturday, April 9th, 2022. The $150 admission fee was waived. It will be waived or discounted for DAO members in the future. There were 14 attendees, not counting the kids. 😌
Part I
Everything went smoothly. After an inspiring introduction from @mbutamwalimu. We kicked off the workshop with a philosophical and motivational speech from @carlsdale about this phenomenon; blockchain, crypto, and the paradigm shift to Web3.
@Donald.porter then took over with our first blockchain game of the day. A simple game that explains consensus, immutability, transparency, and security of distributed ledger technology. The game is fun and we plan to share a video on 3Speak.
We then walk attendees through installing their first dApp, TrustWallet. A popular cryptocurrency wallet needed for the second segment after we break for lunch.

Part II
After lunch (which was epic Ital Jamaican food) we got going again with our second game, the Blockchain Patty-shop Game. This game teaches store-of-value and tokenization in a "near-perfect" or smart contract powered world.
The game is fun, humorous and teaches the volatile nature of tokens. Why do values rise and fall over time due to supply and demand. Look for it in our upcoming Workshop video, it's sure to please.
While the Blockchain Patty-shop Game plays out, we simulatneously confirm everyones TrustWallet download and send them 10 CARIB tokens each. We also send ~$2 USD worth of BSC to facilitate the next part of the workshop.
Yes, you read that clearly: we airdrop 10 CARIB and $2 of BSC to each participant. (:
Teaching no-coiners to transact using BTC, ETH or any major cryptocurrency is risky. Very risky. Here lies the first use-case for CARIB, to educate Carib DAO members initially without risking funds at our workshops. Attendees may purchase BTC/ETH later on during the day, but we use CARIB to avoid the risk and fees until they have some basic understanding.
Attendees are then instructed to send 5 CARIB each to each other by scanning QR codes in TrustWallet. Within seconds they can confirm each transaction. For many, it was the first time sending/receiving crypto.
We close out by introducing Hive, Web3, and NFTs. A segment we would like to embiggen with an experienced NFT artist speaker, but we make due by explaining the benefits and passive income potential.
Hive is the perfect example of a Web3 blockchain, a social blockchain, and a censorship-resistant immutable platform in which anyone can earn from their content and grow social equity. We explain why HIVE will power the Carib DAO social platform and NFT marketplace.
As expected, everyone was amazed at the potential to earn from their social content. Unfortunately, @hiveonboard wasn't working and we were unable to signup 3 people. We will be sure to prepare for this possible hiccup in the future.

The May 2022 Workshop
Our next workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th at CanJam Retreat (@canjamretreat) in Negril, Jamaica. Carib DAO members can attend free. To become a member, simply join the Official Carib DAO Discord and express your interest.
The next workshop will be covered by Digital Jamaica, a popular platform dedicated to the digital education of Jamaicans.

A Blockchain Institute in Paradise
The Carib DAO is actively seeking accreditation for our blockchain classes and we expect to achieve this goal soon. Students will be able to attain certification and/or computer science course credits by attending our Blockchain Institution.
We have already secured the land and (some) building permits. Please refer to the Carib DAO Litepaper for more info.
