ON THE MEADOW NEAR SVETVINCHENAT

in Nature Loverslast year (edited)

Today I drove about forty kilometers north of my hometown, and I spent some time in one of the many meadows in the rural area around the small town called Svetvinchenat. I didn't take many photographs, but I do have some interesting details to show you.

(Enlargeable)

In this opening shot, you can see a colorful beetle from the Chrysomelidae family that I have never seen before. This was the highlight of today's macro experience.

The hairy plant shown in this photograph is the Ajuga orientalis.

Here I came closer with the macro lens to show you all the details of the small hairy bud that will become a flower soon.

(Enlargeable)

After having some fun portraiting these three plants of the same kind ...

(Enlargeable)

... I passed by a bunch of yellow Potentilla heptaphylla flowers, and then ...

... I sat down near this orchid.

Anacamptis morio is the name of the species.

(Enlargeable)

This was my first orchid encounter in 2023.

The flowers are still closed in this shot.

After ten to fifteen minutes with the orchids ...

... I walked to the edge of the meadow surrounded by a line of shrubs and trees. Here you can see a path that leads through that grove ...

(Enlargeable)

... to another meadow.

(Enlargeable)

I took only one shot there, on that neighboring meadow. In its foreground, you can see a bunch of southern daisies (Bellis sylvestris).

Some minutes later, back in the first meadow, I found the leaf beetle.

(Enlargeable)

This is the Gonioctena fornicata. Adults overwinter in the ground and appear very early in the spring.

Both the adults and the larvae mainly feed on the tender leaves and stems of various herbaceous plants from the Fabaceae family. In the following photograph ...

(Enlargeable)

... you can see a small Vicia lathyroides flower. Vicia lathyroides is a plant from the Fabaceae family.

After taking this portrait of the Cerastium brachypetalum plant, I was ready to go home.

The following links will take you to the sites with more information about the protagonists of this post. I found some stuff about them there.

AND THAT'S IT. HAVE A GREAT DAY, OR NIGHT, WHEREVER ON THE PLANET YOU ARE. I DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO EXPLORE THE MEADOW TODAY, SO THE POST IS PRETTY SHORT. HOPE YOU ENJOYED THAT LITLLE YOU SAW HERE. AS ALWAYS ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK.

THE END

I like ladybirds (we call them in England) but they can bite sometimes you know! Mother Nature's clever protection tactic I guess. Anyway awesome photos!

That orchid is gorgeous! What a good day you had.

That orchid is stunning @borjan, I love how intricate their flowers are. How did you know that the beetle was one you hadn't come across before? I would have totally just assumed it's a ladybug 🤣

😆 The colors and the dots were saying " ladybug" but the legs, the antennae, and the overall shape screamed "NO!" So I came closer to take a better look ... and saw that it was something new for me. 😀 Later, at home I found out the name of the species.

You have a great eye for details like that, I'm quite impressed as I wouldn't have thought to look at the legs and antennae that closely. Very cool to add a newbie to your collection of photographed insects.

These photos are excellent to appreciate in a good way the details of the small coleopteran and the plants @borjan. Those hairs that the plants have are called trichomes, they have many important functions, thanks to the excellent photos you got you can see that these plants have quite a few of these hairs, in some species they are much smaller. Thanks for sharing this excellent repertoire of photographs, your blog is great because you do very creative and original things, I recently saw your publication of the feet in different scenarios and it really caught my attention because it was something unique and shows that you like to do things very naturally and creatively, this is great. Greetings and much success my friend.

Thank you. 🙂 It's a great compliment. Thank you.

Saw another orchid here...
I wonder how it'll look when opened....

The hairy plants looks cool, and you just have to love a unique ladybug...

Great shots ✨

That first plant in your post... What is the non scientific name for that plant? If you might know 😂🌿

The lady bug... Absolutely cool!

Look at the lucky ladybug 🐞🐞. It's lovely to see the flowers open up!! 🌺

At first sight I thought the beetle was a ladybug 🐞

I love orchids. So lucky to find one in the wild 😍

Insects seem to me to be animals that contribute to nature, their appearance is not always the best, but their work is ideal

This is such a beautiful blog. Closer to nature. Loved it. Have a blissful day ahead

Parece ser que 🤔 el escarabajo se mueve muy de prisa, esta genial esa fotografía, interesante insecto.
