As the name implies, it indeed performs miracle. Its botanical name is Jatropha Tanjoresis.
This is a leafy vegetable and traditional medicinal plant.
It's a drought-resistant shrub that can grow up to 5 metres tall. It's a smooth leaf with heart-shape and subtle minty-green tones.
Miracle leaf is also known as "hospital is too far". The name was coined not because of any medical connection,but as an old proverb which says "when hospital is too far, the forest must heal you"
Miracle leaf has health benefits that are too numerous:
- It boosts blood production
- It aids digestion
- It supports immune function
- It serves as vegetable in traditional dishes and more
- It can also be used as remedy for high blood pressure.
A relative of mine went to the hospital for a test during her pregnancy,and it was discovered that she had shortage of blood,it was a bit difficult with her at that moment,the only thing that helped her out was miracle leaf.
A midwife cut a handful of miracle leaf,pound it and sieve the water,she added 2 sachets of tomato paste and gave her to drink,the next day she went to the hospital for a test,the doctor asked for the name of the blood tonic or caplet she took, because her blood was quite good.
As earlier said,miracle leaf can serve as food and as medicine. For people with high blood pressure,get miracle leaf,pound and sieve out the water,blend well riped pineapple and add to it.
Miracle leaf is quite nutritious,it can be sliced and added to porridge yam, plantain and rice just like fluted pumpkin (ugu). It can be cooked as vegetable soup or being added to melon soup.
Once you have this plant in your compound,you have a mobile hospital.
