Introduction to DBMS:

  • Database is simply a collection of data.
  • Database management system (DBMS) is a software or application used to store, access data from database (DB).
  • Eg. Oracle, MySQL etc.

Disadvantages of traditional File System:

  1. Multiple file formats (redundancy) and duplication of files in different files (inconsistency).
  2. Problems to access data such as we need to write new program to carry out each new task.
  3. Multiple files & formats (Data isolation).
  4. Security issues in data.
  5. Problems in transaction of data.
  6. Hard to manage large amount of data.
  7. Time consuming.
  8. Overall cost is high.

So, DBMS offer solution to all those problems that faced in traditional File System.
