George Orwell's Animal Farm is a work of literature that is held in the highest regard when it comes to historical satires. Orwell's cruel but realistic depiction of the rise and fall of the Soviet Union is shown in a very "Disney" way. Animal Farm is an allegory, Manor Farm, where Mr.Jones and the animals live is allegorical for Russia. This makes Mr.Jones the Russian Czar, who is overthrown(or in the literal sense - chased away) by the animals. Major political figures are replaced by animals such as pigs, horses, dogs, etc. For example, The three pigs - Old Major who represents Vladimir Lenin/Karl Marx, Napoleon represents Stalin, and Snowball represents Trotsky. Although these animals represent specific people, Boxer the horse represents the entire working class/proletariats.
Animal Farm explores the themes of equality, corruption, and greed. The animals overthrow Mr. Jones's monarchy by establishing an animalistic government (an allegory for communism). Old Major always preached that all animals are equal but after his death, his ideals are corrupted over time by the remaining animals. Eventually, equality becomes a luxury, rather than a fundamental right. The parallels drawn by Orwell are interesting as the story begins with animals fighting for their freedom and ends with animals oppressing each other.
