Amigos de la cultura, la historia y la buena música: Soy Arnaldo Hurtado, y hoy tengo el inmenso honor de compartir con ustedes una vivencia que me llena de orgullo villacurano. Les traigo el relato de mi reciente entrevista con Don Elio Evangelio Martínez, un cronista nacido en nuestra tierra en 1946, cuya vida es un testimonio vivo del arte y la humanidad.
Medio Siglo de Inspiración:
Durante nuestra conversación, me sumergí en la pasión que encendió la llama de Don Elio: su amor por la escritura. Me contó que todo comenzó después de leer un material inspirador del eterno maestro Renny Otolina en el periódico El Nacional. Desde ese momento, se dedicó a plasmar sentimientos en versos, creando poemas a su amada madre, a su esposa y hasta a emisoras de radio y librerías de Cagua que solicitaban su trabajo poético.
Pero Don Elio es mucho más que un poeta.
El Coleccionista Apasionado:
Me comentó que su aventura como coleccionista inició en la década de 1960. No se limitó a un solo rubro: comenzó con billetes en circulación, botellas y estampillas. Sin embargo, su conexión profunda con el arte y la música lo impulsó a crear una colección monumental que atraviesa épocas, desde cassettes, VHS, y acetatos, hasta los más actuales CD y videos en MP4.
Su acervo musical es un verdadero tesoro de la venezolanidad y el gusto exquisito. Conversamos sobre su pasión por la Salsa, las obras de Óscar D'León y La Billo’s, la producción de los Niños Cantores de Villa de Cura, los trabajos de Hugo Blanco, la genialidad de Simón Díaz y su hermano Joselo. Además, su colección de música Anglo de la época abarca la excelencia del rock, las baladas y el jazz.
Amor a la Antigua y Clase Obrera:
Algo que me conmovió profundamente fue su historia de amor con su señora esposa, América Hurtado. Me detalló el hermoso proceso de su enamoramiento, basado en cartas y poemas escritos a papel que enviaba para cortejarla.
Don Elio Evangelio Martínez pertenece a la clase obrera, a la clase poética y, sin duda, a la clase de Humanidad. A través de sus 50 años de dedicación al arte, la música y la poesía, nos enseña el valor de preservar nuestra cultura y de vivir con una profunda pasión.
Transmitir el arte de Don Elio nos llena de orgullo para que se escuche en toda Venezuela. Es un honor para mí compartir lo que vivimos en esta entrevista con un hombre que ha dedicado medio siglo al arte.

Friends of culture, history, and good music: I am Arnaldo Hurtado, and today I have the immense honor of sharing with you an experience that fills me with pride as a Villacurano. I bring you the story of my recent interview with Don Elio Evangelio Martínez, a chronicler born in our land in 1946, whose life is a living testament to art and humanity.
Half a Century of Inspiration:
During our conversation, I delved into the passion that ignited Don Elio's flame: his love for writing. He told me that it all began after reading an inspiring piece by the eternal maestro Renny Otolina in the newspaper El Nacional. From that moment on, he dedicated himself to capturing his feelings in verse, creating poems for his beloved mother, his wife, and even for radio stations and bookstores in Cagua that requested his poetic work.
But Don Elio is much more than a poet.
The Passionate Collector:
He told me that his adventure as a collector began in the 1960s. He didn't limit himself to a single category: he started with banknotes, bottles, and stamps. However, his deep connection with art and music led him to create a monumental collection that spans eras, from cassettes, VHS tapes, and vinyl records to the most recent CDs and MP4 videos.
His musical collection is a true treasure of Venezuelan identity and exquisite taste. We talked about his passion for Salsa, the works of Óscar D'León and La Billo's, the productions of the Niños Cantores de Villa de Cura, the works of Hugo Blanco, and the genius of Simón Díaz and his brother Joselo. In addition, his collection of Anglo music from the era encompasses excellent rock, ballads, and jazz.
Old-Fashioned Love and the Working Class:
Something that deeply moved me was his love story with his wife, América Hurtado. He detailed the beautiful process of his falling in love, based on letters and poems written on paper that he sent to woo her.
Don Elio Evangelio Martínez belongs to the working class, to the poetic class, and, without a doubt, to the Humanity class. Through his 50 years of dedication to art, music, and poetry, he teaches us the value of preserving our culture and living with a deep passion.
Transmitting Don Elio's art fills us with pride so that it can be heard throughout Venezuela. It is an honor for me to share what we experienced in this interview with a man who has dedicated half a century to art.
