Two Baroque fountains - short journey into the Baroque - watercolors on paper and photographs.

Hello everyone dear friends and welcome back to my blog. Today I share with you two watercolors that draw inspiration from the fountains of the Baroque art period in Italy.

We know that this period was born in Rome towards the first years of the 17th century. and it developed in Italy and in the rest of Europe by means of great French and Spanish artists who visited the papal city.

It is very important to underline that the Baroque was exported by Spanish and Portuguese architects and artists also to Latin America, Mexico and Brazil.

Later in the 18th century, nations such as Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela and Cuba, are also familiar with Spanish Baroque architecture.

Russia and Poland adopted the Baroque style from France with the construction of beautiful palaces of a very refined taste.

The world center of the Baroque was Rome, the seat of the great popes of the seventeenth century.

Many popes will help finance the likes of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini in sculpture and architecture who created works of art of immortal value.

Then we have the figure of the cursed artist that is Michelangelo Merisi known as Caravaggio who will initiate an artistic revolution in the field of painting, inventing a new way of representing the human figure, in dramatic plays of dark and light that are unique and unrepeatable.

I love talking about art a lot, even to my students and I try to be as clear as possible as I hope it is with you.

We come to the two watercolors that represent two completely different fountains in style and materials. The first is a classic Baroque fountain in marble and travertine.

The large bowl that collects the water is raised on steps a three lozenges and at the top a Roman frieze decoration in white marble. I want to clarify that the fountain does not exist and it is my invention both in terms of colors and composition.

The second watercolor depicts a Roman hero, Hercules, who in ancient Greece was called Heracles. The figure of the hero is a bronze sculpture with the typical green color, he forcefully lifts a rock from the ground to reclaim the land to be cultivated. A much brighter and more sunny watercolor than the previous one.

I hope you enjoyed this little journey into the Baroque and I send you a strong embrace like Hercules, but light as air.

Due fontane barocche - breve viaggio nel barocco - acquarelli su carta e fotografie.

Ciao a tutti cari amici e ben tornati sul mio blog. Oggi condivido con voi due acquarelli che traggono ispirazione dalle fontane del periodo di arte barocca in Italia. Sappiamo che questo periodo è nato a Roma verso i primi anni del XVII sec. e si è sviluppato in Italia e nel resto di Europa per mezzo di grandi artisti francesi e spagnoli che hanno visitato la città papale.

E' molto importante sottolineare che il Barocco è stato esportato da architetti e artisti spagnoli e portoghesi anche in America Latina, in Messico e Brasile. Più tardi nel XVIII secolo anche nazioni come l'Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay e Venezuela conoscono l'architettura barocca spagnola. La Russia e la Polonia adottarono lo stile barocco dalla Francia con l'edificazione di bellissimi palazzi di un gusto molto raffinato.

Il centro mondiale del Barocco fu Roma, la sede dei grandi papi del Seicento.

Molti papi contribuiranno a finanziare artisti del calibro di Gian Lorenzo Bernini e Francesco Borromini in scultura e architettura che crearono opere d'arte di valore immortale.

Abbiamo poi la figura dell'artista maledetto cioè Michelangelo Merisi detto il Caravaggio che avvierà una rivoluzione artistica nel campo della pittura, inventando un nuovo modo di rappresentare la figura umana, in drammatici giochi di buio e luce unici e irripetibili.

Amo molto parlare di arte, anche ai miei studenti e cerco di essere il più chiaro possibile così come spero lo sia con voi.
Veniamo ai due acquarelli che rappresentano due fontane completamente diverse nello stile e nei materiali.

La prima è una classica fontana Barocca in marmo e travertino.

La grande coppa che raccoglie l'acqua è rialzata su dei gradini a tre losanghe ed in alto una decorazione a fregio romano in marmo bianco. Voglio precisare che la fontana non esiste ed è una mia invenzione sia nei colori che nella composizione.

Il secondo acquarello rappresenta un eroe romano, Ercole, che nell'antica Grecia si chimava Eracle. La figura dell'eroe è una scultura in bronzo con il tipico colore verde, egli solleva con forza un masso dal terreno per bonificare la terra da coltivare.
Un acquarello molto più luminoso e solare rispetto al precedente.

Spero che questo piccolo viaggio nel Barocco vi sia piaciuto e vi mando un abbraccio forzuto come Ercole, ma leggero come l'aria.
