All it takes for you to take a short breath and pause from all the noise in the world is to simply have a moment with yourself in the mirror.

You reflection connotes many aspects of yourself as a whole. Whenever we paused to take a good look at ourselves it’s also an opportunity to grasp your thoughts, ingest your current circumstances and evaluate life in general.

Life can often be difficult. Most important of all it’s a lot faster than we think it is. Growth is inevitable and time is indifferent to our emotions or to whatever else we may feel about it. It moves constantly. The inevitability of time can be awfully surrral. But the moments where we shift things aside and have a moment of self reflection, the anticipation and continuity of life slows down.

As the years go on, we realise that we’re not the same person anymore. That we’re older. The story of today may be different tomorrow. Uncertainties are much more rampant as the days and hours pass. So capturing this moment, standing in front of a mirror with a phone in hand isn’t just a photo. It’s a reminder of where I am today. The moment where I stopped to admire myself at a standpoint of realisation and self appreciation. No matter how brief these moments of introspection might be, it doesn’t negate its significance. In a way it’s a meditation. A mental exercise where I concentrate my mind and focus on what it means to be alive and well.

What people fail to think about is cherishing the present. We often find ourselves ruminating on the past. Or hoping for the future. We engulf ourselves in the perspective of our prior experiences or for the most part, the prospects of our future. It’s the reason why we educate ourselves, why we exercise, why we continue to strive for the betterment of our future self. Yes, this is an optimistic position to take and generally should be the standard, but I’ve always believe to properly elevate our destiny we must set the groundwork in our present. And most important of all, appreciate it. The present isn’t just the gateway. The present is the future unfolding right now.
