Hello fellow Splinterlands friends!!!
This May 2024 continues the celebration of Splinterlands' 6 years of activity, one of the most famous Play2Earn games in the crypto world. With this week's Social Media Challenge, we have the opportunity to look back at how we first encountered and began our journey on this platform.
I've already dedicated last week's post to this topic, and I must say that revisiting the cards from the Alpha and Beta editions, the first 2 to come out, which laid the groundwork for what Splinterlands would become, brought about a wave of nostalgia.
Looking back at one of my old favorite cards, Hydra, I thought to myself; hey, it's not bad even by today's gaming standards. Especially with the introduction of the Shades of Grey ruleset, where only Neutral element cards can be used, why not power it up?
Hydra used to be a very expensive card a few years ago, with prices exceeding $100 for a BCX. At that price, it was very difficult for me to power it up, but I was very happy with the investment I made. In fact, when I bought my two copies, they were only a couple of dollars each.
Now I've seen that the price has dropped significantly, just above $11 per BCX, at least on the market, so I decided to power up this card not only to level 2 but even to level 3.
Hydra, at level 3, becomes even more competitive, for the cost of 7 mana, reaching 9 Health, and boasting 3 abilities on the battlefield: Heal, which regenerates its life every round, and Thorns and Retaliate, with which it hits back melee monsters that attack it, up to two times, making it an excellent monster to position as a Tank, especially against other melee monsters.
In this recent challenge of mine, which you can see at this link, we can see how Hydra can still be a very competitive card today, 6 years later: Battle Link
It's a shame that my opponent didn't choose a Tank with melee attack, so I could have used Hydra's Thorns and Retaliate abilities, but still, with its Heal ability, it managed to hold out until the last round and lead its team to victory.
So, it's best not to fall behind, studying the new cards, but also those from the old editions, if we want to remain competitive on the battlefield.

Io ho già dedicato il post della settimana scorsa a questo topic, e devo dire che riguardare le carte dell'edizione Alpha e Beta, le prime 2 ad uscire, che hanno gettato le fondamenta di ciò che Splinterlands sarebbe diventato,mi ha creato un po' di nostalgia.
Riguardando una delle mi vecchie carte preferite, ovvero Hydra, mi sono detto; ehi, non è male neanche per gli standard di gioco di oggi e, soprattutto con l'introduzione del ruleset Shades of Grey, in cui si possono usare solamente carte dell'elemento Neutral, perchè non potenziarla di livello ?
Hydra era una carta molto costosa alcuni anni fa, e per un BCX si arrivava a chiedere più di 100$: a quel prezzo, era molto difficile per me potenziarla, però ero molto contento per l'investimento realizzato, infatti quando avevo acquistato i miei due esemplari costavano solo un paio di dollari.
Ora ho visto che il prezzo è sceso molto, siamo poco sopra i 11$ per BCX, almeno adesso sul mercato, e quindi ho deciso di potenziare questa carta non solo al livello 2, ma addirittura al livello 3.
Hydra, al livello 3 diventa ancora più competitiva, per il costo di 7 mana , arrivando a 9 di Health , e potendo sfoggiare sul campi di battaglia 3 abilità: Heal, con cui rigenera la sua vita ad ogni round, e Thorns e Retaliate con cui colpisce di rimbalzo, fino a due volte, i mostri melee che lo attaccano: questo lo rende un ottimo mostro da mettere in posizione Tank, soprattutto contro altri mostri melee.

Peccato che il mio avversario non abbia scelto un Tank con attacco melee, così avrei potuto usare le abilità Thorns e Retaliate di Hydra, che comunque con la sua abilità Heal è riuscito a resistere fino all'ultimo round e portare la sua squadra alla vittoria.
Quindi, meglio non rimanere indietro, studiando le nuove carte, ma anche quelle delle vecchie edizione, se vogliamo rimanere competitivi sul campo di battaglia.

In più è ottima, come hai scritto, anche nel nuovo Shades of Grey... davvero un bell'acquisto!
È una carta a cui sono affezionato, forse non è fortissima come Uriel the Purfier o Grum Flameblade, ma per il costo medio di 7 mana offre un bel pacchetto di abilità.
I love using Hydra! I don't own one but it's become such a cheap rental that I rent quite a bit. It's a great card!
