I guess I am late to the party but it looks like somewhere around in November, 2025 there was this news that OpenAI offered the Indian users ChatGPT Go free for 12 months and this included GPT-5 access, image generation, advanced data analysis, and longer memory. And who does not like to explore the FREE version of ChatGPT Go. It is today that while, I was using ChatGPT I got to see this prompt where it said to claim your free upgrade and when I clicked it, I got to the following screen which displays the different versions of ChatGPT like Go, Plus and Pro with their feature differences and the cost associated to it.

So the million dollar question did I activate the Go plan? Well why not I did went ahead activating the plan and all I had to do is some formalities like confirming the standing instructions of the payment which I selected as UPI [Unified Payments Interface] and I was all set to have my plan upgraded to Pro all for FREE. Please note there was no money deducted it was just a standing instruction and only after one year will I be charged and during any point of time I can cancel the standing instruction for any payment to OpenAI. Maybe in my next post, I’ll cover how to cancel standing payment instructions on UPI apps like Google Pay. So for now it is all about leveraging the new features all for FREE and seeing how the experience turns out. From good to better or even exceptional, time is gona tell. So we need to wait here before I get back with my feedback.
Looking over the internet when I try to check on the difference with ChatGPT Go vs noemal plan here is what I get.

I also see that the chats are longer and one can upload more content. With the normal version at somepoint in time the chat needs to be started fresh and this really causes a break in continuity. On the plan page, it mentions that the Pro plan creates more realistic images compared to the free version. I’m yet to try this out, so I’ll share my thoughts once I do. Overall, it’s a good deal to have access to ChatGPT Pro level features completely for free. It allows users to explore advanced capabilities without any paying anything upfront i.e. there is no commitment, making it easier to experiment, learn, and truly understand the value before deciding to upgrade. For now, it feels like a solid opportunity to test what the platform can really offer and take advatage of it. If value is there then there is no harm paying for it. So I now have a year to evaluate the value and then decide whether I really want to renew the plan or simply move on. I am concerned about the SI for payment and this is why I have not opted for this. is it safe to enable SI ?
I was also conncerned earlier for the SI but once done nothing was deducted from my account and rather from one it I dont see anything being deducted either and hence it looks save at the moment. Also there is an option to cancel at any point in time. cheers
