“Sono passato a vedere la mamma e sarebbe meglio che tu venissi subito a Firenze”.
“Sto andando a comprare il biglietto del treno e arrivo domani”.
“Non l’ho vista bene. Mi è sembrata assente. Ascolta il biglietto del treno lo fai un’altra volta. Prendi l’aereo”.
Con una certezza e una fiducia immense, rispondo: “Penso sia meglio il treno, faccio il viaggio, e arrivo fresco e pronto per starle vicino. Se vengo in aereo ascolto soltanto il panico e non è quello che voglio dare alla mamma”.
Sembrano le parole di un pazzo ma Andrea continua: “Lo so Lorenzo, ma se ti dico prendi l’aereo, dammi retta. Non c’è tempo da perdere”.
Lentamente affiora alla coscienza il motivo delle preghiere. Sempre più sicuro di me rispondo: “La mamma non va via senza salutarmi.
Lasciamo le cose svolgersi in modo normale, non buttiamo benzina sul fuoco. Siamo in una situazione d’emergenza abbi fiducia, lei mi aspetta”.
Quella sicurezza viene fuori dalle preghiere e da tutta la vita vissuta con lei. Tutto è stato scritto da sempre, solo adesso imparo a leggerlo.
“Poi chi ti viene a prendere alla stazione, allo zio gli ho detto che avresti preso l’aereo. A che ora hai detto che arrivi?”
“Verso le 19”.
“Guarda di essere più preciso per favore”.
“Vado alla stazione e poi ti ritelefono”.
“Dai retta a me, prendi l’aereo”.
“Se io prendo l’aereo, arrivo stasera tardi, ormai comunque troppo tardi per il passo di sera all’ospedale. Quindi comunque, la vedrei domani, che differenza fa domani mattina o domani sera”.
“C’è differenza,” risponde preoccupato Andrea.
“Dopo tutta la strada che abbiamo fatto insieme la mamma mi aspetta.” Sono convinto in un miracolo. Lui mi risponde: “Fai come vuoi. Allora aspetto una tua telefonata più tardi?”.
“Ok a dopo”.
“A dopo figliolo”.
“Ciao e grazie”.

They sound like the words of a madman but Andrea continues, "I know Lorenzo, but if I tell you to take the plane, listen to me. There's no time to lose'.
Slowly the reason for the prayers dawns on my conscience. Ever more confident, I reply: 'Mum doesn't leave without saying goodbye to me.
Let things unfold normally, let's not throw petrol on the fire. We are in an emergency situation have confidence, she is waiting for me".
That confidence comes from prayers and from a whole life lived with her. Everything has been written all along, only now do I learn to read it.
"Then who picks you up from the station, I told uncle you would take the plane. What time did you say you would arrive?"
"Around 7pm."
"Try to be more precise please."
"I'll go to the station and then I'll phone you back."
"Listen to me, take the plane."
"If I take the plane, I'll arrive late tonight, too late for the evening pass to the hospital anyway. So anyway, I would see her tomorrow, what difference does it make tomorrow morning or tomorrow night."
"There is a difference," Andrea replies worriedly.
