This winter, so far, I mean until almost halfway through, has been the warmest winter I've experienced... and believe me, I've been living for a while. I have memories of the 1960s too!

I'm now talking about what's happening in Romania, in Bucharest to be precise. My climate zone, which in the last century was called temperate-continental, was characterized by hot summers but also long and very cold winters. Now, for about ten years, I have noticed that the winters are getting shorter and warmer.

Shorter winters mean winters that start later and later, giving way to longer and longer autumns... in fact, autumn is not longer either because it, too, has started later, leaving room for a longer summer. A summer that, in its turn, has also bitten into spring, starting earlier than usual.

After all, it would seem that it is summer that wins the race of the seasons. Summers are getting longer and hotter!

Two causes have influenced the climate in Romania, more precisely in the country's capital, Bucharest, where I live. In my opinion, an opinion influenced by the conclusions of scientists, of course, these would be the causes:

- Global warming
- The Mediterranean climate, which now also covers the south of Romania.

This winter warming, even if it has been extremely useful this year, in the context of exorbitant energy prices and the outbreak of war in Ukraine, is not good for nature and agriculture...

Fooled by the weather, the plants already think spring has started. The harbingers of spring, the snowdrops, are already blooming. The little insects sit and enjoy the warmth of the sun. Now, when all the perennials, shrubs, and trees should be in hibernation, a dangerous phenomenon is happening. Fruit trees are preparing to flower, shrubs, bushes, and roses are budding and the young leaves are already opening.

I post here a few pictures from my little garden, as proof that its little inhabitants think winter is over. But...

The cruel winter is not defeated for good! It waits to strike hard and when it does, it will kill all the newborn plant life. This moment is drawing near. In many parts of Europe, it is already snowing heavily and soon it will be here where I live. All that remains is to see what damage it will do to those who thought winter was gone!

Thank you!

Right, it also had been an unusual warm winter here until Sunday. However, it has been cold and rainy this week and will be so for a while. I am happy for us to have some rain, but we will need much more for a summer without drought, especially we need snowfall.

Exactly, we need rain and snow. Maybe we'll get some soon!

Our winter has been on balance, mild with just a few sudden cold spells plus we've not had a lot of rain to speak of. All a bit of a concern, especially if the summer is as hot as 2022!

Yes, that's what I mean too, it's a drought threat.
